I have, in the past, made reservations at WDW using the annual pass codes and purchased my ticket just prior to check in. I never had a problem. I did read that the policy changed, however, I also have read that you can still do this. I did try to make a reservation for this May and the CM said I could not do this. Has anyone had any recent experience with this? I won't buy an annual pass prior to arrival since they are very expensive, plus I will lose over 2 months of use! Thanks for any input on this!!

Actually, even if you "purchase" or buy the annual pass today, it doesn't begin the YEAR until the pass is activated at the first park you enter. For example, I bought my AP in May of last year, but didn't activate it until I got there on 6/7/07. So, even though I purchased it earlier, my year didn't begin then.

I would assume that you could buy the AP as you were making the reservation to get the discount for the room. But that I am not as sure about.

The first part of what I said, I am sure about.
Good luck.

You can buy your AP prior to your trip and not lose anything. When you buy online or by phone your get a voucher. When you arrive in WDW and go to a park guest relations window you then turn your voucher in for the actual ticket. Not until that moment does your time start. I've got a voucher in my closest that I've had for 2 years (mostly because we keep renewing our old AP). So you can certainly buy your ticket and use your voucher to check in. Only one time did I heard a CM say to a guest that they would put their room rate on hold and as soon as they had the actual AP, they would apply the discount. (This was at the Beach Club 2 years ago.)

I have never had a problem booking a room with the AP discount and purchasing the pass after I arrived....maybe this is something new...:confused3

I just booked our up coming trip in April with an AP discount, and I don't have our new AP's yet. They just stated that we need them when checking in. This was only a couple weeks ago, so what happened ? I would call again.... Hope this helps...

When I booked our trip last year with an AP discount, the CM told me she either needed the voucher number, the AP number or for me to make the purchase then and I would need an activated AP at check-in. This is a new policy. But with all things Disney, not all CMs know/do what they are supposed to. In the pass, I just need the voucher (and show the activation within a day or two) or the activated pass at check-in.

I purchased one AP, was going to do it anyway. I purchased the rest later (I like my money working for me!). It really wasn't a big deal. If something happened and we didn't end up going, the AP wasn't going to expire. Plus, I wanted to make sure I had my very discounted rate; I didn't want to take a chance.

Can you check into your resort using an AP discount if you only have the AP voucher because you have not yet activated it? I'm hoping this is the case, otherwise I'll need to make a trip to one of the parks or DD to have it activated before checking in.
