Annual pass changes coming........

Does Disney typically spring these increases over night???? :confused3

I would be peeved if I were at Disney right now and decided to upgrade to AP 's today (instead of yesterday) from a magic your way ticket package. That would be an extra $400 for my family of four.

No warning just seems so wrong. :sad2:

The best it's been in recent years is announcements on Fridays for implementation on Sunday. They've done a couple of these boom overnight things even more recently.

The PhotoPass benefit is worth $300-$450 assuming 2-3 trips per year, which compared to the $300-400 AP price increase per family of 4 is a wash.

I'm not a family of 4. For me, I'm pretty happy about it. I also take a lot more than 4 trips a year though. Not a typical situation.

Yes... but the point that was being made is there is something Different happening in this round of price changes than in February.

Previously... If a person bought an AP in January before the February price increase. Then in March wanted to upgrade to the PAP. The difference they would pay is the (new) March cost of the AP and the (new) March cost of the PAP. The original price paid was irrelevant in the calculation.

Today it's slightly different... There is NO mapping of the AP to the new Platinum pass (or PAP to P+). In fact, technically there was NO price change on the AP or PAP. They are simply discontinued products. So Disney is using the old/last price of that product to calculate the upgrade.... This is what is different in the upgrades that are being performed today (and a slight departure from prior experiences).

BTW, it should be noted... Those upgrading from Weekday selects and Epcot after 4 are getting the NEW price of their existing ticket for upgrade purposes. Those two tickets were not discontinued and did experience a price increase today. (And of course anyone who bought tickets before the February increase are getting the benefit of the post increase pricing when upgrading as well).

I get it now.

The math is $300-$150=$150 savings/$1500 purchase = 10% ;), but I get your point :D. Obviously, if you spend more, on multiple trips (which is the only way TIW every makes sense IMO), you save more, e.g. assuming $2,500/wk. (2 sit downs a day for family of 4 with 2 kids) @ 2 weeks = 17%; @3 weeks = 18% :teacher:

FYI, 57 out of 102 (56%) of the restaurants that accept a TIW do no accept any other discounts per mouseperks.com.
We can still get use out of TIW even with the price increase. First we do TS most every day and both DH and I drink at least 2 adult beverages with each meal. If not more since we aren't driving. Our savings with TIW is significant

Yep, it's an asymmetrical benefit/cost -- $150 per trip savings/$100pp cost. So for 1 person you save $50 @ 1 trip. 2 people save $50 @ 2 trips, 3 people break even at 2 trips, and 4 people break even at 3 trips (pretty hefty). Then, some people never bough MM in the first place, so it's really not a savings (although it is a benefit) :thumbsup2

Winner winner chicken dinner. You could have even have bought the AP certificate before the last price change and you will be forced to pay the latest price of the new APs if they don't grandfather the AP certificates. So far, I've seen no confirmation they will grandfather the certs -- which is a huge deal ($400 cost difference for family of 4)

So, my current AP (non Florida resident) expires 10/19. I just renewed my AP 2 weeks ago which does not start until 10/20. I am going to Disney 10/16-10/25. Anyone have any idea what the cost will be to upgrade to the platinum pass to get the photo pass benefit? Someone said it was $101 at the parks today for a pass that is already 1/2 used!! The difference in the renewal price is $81 (so with tax $86.67). My new AP pass has not even started yet but already paid for in full. If I upgrade, any idea what price I will be charged? During my trip I will be 4 days under my current AP and 6 days under my new renewal AP. Should I buy Memory Maker (it has to be purchased 3 days before our trip to get the $169 price) or upgrade the pass at the park? I think it sucks that Disney just did this overnight without any warning or offer to upgrade existing pass holders.

Credit for previous price of AP renewal (since it no longer exists, it's not the current price) - New renewal price for Platinum Plus, so $635-$554 = $81+ 6.5%tax = $86.27.

and the nice thing is the more you drink the more you save.... :)

My PAP expires in Mid December. We have a NYE trip so I will have to get the Platinum Pass, but next year, we'll renew to the pass with black out dates.

This will make the first two weeks in December even more popular with DVC members.

Does all of this mean that my postcard for renewal guaranteeing a price of 590 (now 645) until November 11 will not be honored? Doesn't seem fair.

That's still gonna be tough for two people. DW and I are in the same situation. Between dinner and drinks we would offset the $75 cost after the 5th or 6th meal. MK was tough since we didn't get drinks (obviously). As long as we went to Disney twice a year that second trip we were in the green and it was worth it. Now we will just be breaking even, maybe saving a few bucks if we are lucky. Not worth it anymore IMO.

Do you use valet? With that price jumping up to $25, for those who use valet it still isn't hard to get your money's worth. I personally use the valet benefit whenever I can so I get a lot of my value there.

Sorry for the confusion on my part.... I've read thru and am still a little confused. We have a DVC non premium voucher in hand. When we activate in December what will we get? Gold or Platinum? Thanks for any help... I really appreciate the info...

You will get the DVC non premium unless you pay to upgrade to Gold or Platinum.
