Annual Pass and Disney Dining

Realize that you will get a 10% Discount (sometimes more) with an AP at many, if not most Disney restaurants. The DP may not be the better choice.

I don't think there are any QS restaurants that give the AP discount, though. As we don't really do ADRs, the AP discount doesn't help us for food.

Has anyone done DP plus AP and TiW?
It would be hard to break even on the cost of TiW if you also had the dining plan. The TiW card cost $150 and you would have to spend $750 just to break even. The TiW card will give you a discount on the alcoholic beverages that are not included in the dining plan, but you would have to be at a restaurant or resort lounge, for it to be included in the TiW discount. The TiW only works at sit down restaurants with the exception of the food courts at the value resorts and PoFQ, and maybe a few counter service restaurants. And any food items that aren't included in the DDP, like appetizers or soups or salads at a table service restaurant, would be covered by TiW. But it wouldn't be worth it to have both the DDP and TiW.

The best time to get the TiW card is if you plan multiple trips or you are taking a big family group - or both. :)

We have had both DDP and TIW and recouped the cost of the TIW. However we are an all adult group, like an adult beverage with meals and also order appetizers etc.
But as @Wood Nymph stated, we used it over multiple trips and it was the second trip that we recouped the cost and started saving

When our son was a CM at WDW, we had the TIW card. We would usually have the three of us, plus a couple of his friends join us for dinner. So adult beverages and four or five adults, we made up the cost of the card in one or two trips. Now he lives in Miami and doesn't go with us very much and I can't have alcohol, so we don't get it any more and just use our DVC or AP discount. The last time we got the dining plan it was about $35 for adults for the regular dining plan, appetizers were included as were gratuities. We left behind a few snack credits. No more. We don't eat that much.

I'll throw in my experience with this one as well. Immediate family is 4 "adults" (our kids are now 12 and 14). We are APs with TiW. Most trips also involve other friends and family members. As I mentioned before paying for the DP works better for us as a family/group.
This is going to make us sound like a bunch of drunks :-) (trust me - nobody is ever drunk or even close) but, TiW comes into play if we're waiting for a meal or stopping in for a drink at a Rose and Crown or one of the bar areas attached to most restaurants for example, I end up being the 'designated buyer' since I have the TiW card. If 4 to 8 people are getting drinks the savings really add up over the course of a few trips.

We have done this, we always have an AP and usually a TIW card. Occasionally we will do a split stay with a one night room only reservation before a DVC reservation. When this happens we usually save money by getting the Deluxe plan for the one night reservation and arranging our more expensive meals to coincide with the days we have the deluxe plan. Normally, the TIW works out better for us, except for this rare instance.
