The search doesn't seem to be working and we are debating buying into AKL - we have an upcoming trip and are wondering if we should put the lodging money into the DVC purchase.

Just curious as to what the current annual fees are.

Thanks in advance

We just bought into SSR for this same reason and the current incentives (but are going away in the next week?) from disney are quite good. We were able to book a 2 bedroom at SSR in May and used 07 points plus the developer points. Our original plans we to stay at movies due to bringing MIL. But if your upcoming trip is this March as your signature line states there is a good change there are no rooms available. If you call a disney rep and inquire about a purchase they can check into room availability for you and then can put the room on hold while you fill out the paperwork. As for the MF someone else will have to chime in.

What or who pays for the boardwalk at the BWV.

Is that paid for (the performers and upkeep of the actual boardwalk) by Disney as a whole, or is that cost partialy put onto BWV dues?

Thanks - I never even considered this because of availability but the salesperson was pretty reassuring it could be accomodated but I didn't have him check - (I was driving and was thinking this was the sales side of his mouth talking..lol) If I was closer to the YES side of my decision it would be a no brainer to me for what I am spending lodging for 7 nights AKL Club level..

If you were to move ahead and purchase DVC for this trip you must also consider if your current reservation can be cancelled/deposit refunded. If you booked a package deal you may have to see if the guide can pull some strings. I believe room only reservations can be cancelled without penalty.

GOOD LUCK.

That was another thought I had - I wouldn't the $200 fee- or it would have to come off of closing or something
I just fear that I would regret buying sight unseen so to speak.
This is my family's first trip and my 1st adult life- while I HOPE they love it would want to come back year after year - who knows until we go..

We did buy sight unseen but have taken a few other TS presentation (non disney) so felt okay with doing it. However, the reason we purchase SSR is even though it might be "boring" if you listen to some people on these boards. We felt over the next 40 years with refurbs it will always be "in style" who knows in 20 years poka dot walls may be the in thing. However with AKL they will always have to keep that lodge feeling. Which might be cool now but we were worried it might get old after 15-20 years. Now you can always book at other resorts but we wanted to be comfortable with always staying at our home resort.

But the only way a DVC purchase makes sense is if you plan to visit nearly every year

No, the performers on the Boardwalk are paid by the merchants there, not by BWV owners. The maintenance of the Boardwalk itself is also covered by the merchants and not directly by BWV maintenance fees - although at least a portion of those fees do go to upkeep for the Friendship Boats and the dock access. BC/YC/BCV, BWI/BWV and S&D also share in that boat expense as they all have a boardwalk around Crescent Lake.
