Annual dues heading up?

Just my opinion, but I don't want them to try so hard to keep dues low that quality of the resorts suffers in any way. I would rather pay a higher fee than see that happen.

...I hope DVCers don't complain too much about the fees.

Dues are the one "great unknown" that potential dvc members wrestle with. Everything else including points, accomodations, and seasons are essentially fixed, safe, and easy to budget for. Maybe I scare too easy but if there was a history of several increases in the 8% range I'd be cleaning the garage like I promised instead of chatting with you folks on the web.

Maistre -- I'm with you in that I would rather pay modest increases to keep the resort at the level it was in 1993 than to constantly "save" money. I don't like to see wasteful spending but I also want to keep the luxury feel. I'm not sure how big a problem theft is and why it can't be controlled by billing people for what is missing (like they do with luxury robes in many hotels). This would allow us to have the decorative extras in our homes.

How much of the "shared resort ammenities" are paid for by DVC owners at VWL, BWV, BCV? Is it possible for Disney to use the DVCers to pay our fair share (at least what resort management says is our fair share). i.e., Do BCV owners pay for 10%, 25%, 50% for the operation of SAB?

Well, Granny I should know by now not to doubt you....

8% seems like it's a little high, but as you reported, there are 5%+ increases this year. I hope OKW stays in the 5% or less range.

8%????????? . I may have to go on welfare, but we're still keeping our DVC points:jester: :jester: :jester: ......

Thanks for the 1993 dues, Pam. My calculations say that the dues have gone up approximately 36% in 10 years from $2.56 in 1993 to $3.49 in 2003. That's an average of 3% per year which, interestingly enough, was the number we pulled out of the air for dues increases when we did our "Is DVC right for us?" calculations. While I am not happy with a 27 cent increase (the largest of all the DVC properties and we still don't have a slide or lifeguards ;)), the cumulative increase over the last 10 years have not been bad, IMO.

Maybe the higher than average dues increase means Disney will put in a slide and lifeguard. That was the rumor when BCV opened and pool hopping was stopped at SAB.

DH and I factored in a 5% yearly dues increase as part of our pre-purchase planning. 8% seems a little high...I'll adopt your wait-and-see attitude.

Doesn't that info get mailed in December?
