I agree. Lately it feels like they shoehorn IP in everywhere.I don't have a problem with IP when it fits in and makes sense.

I would prefer IP themed attractions like if test track was like candy crush from Wreck it Ralph it would be sooooo much better them GM or any other car manufacturer for that matter. Most non IPWhat's wrong with original attractions with no IP
My biggest pet peeve is the fireworks. The fireworks used to tell a story. Now they just cram in as much IP as possible and only a little of it makes sense.I agree. Lately it feels like they shoehorn IP in everywhere.

Makes total sense - being in the middle lends perspective to both sides!I am somewhere in-between on this topic.
I agree with the comments about HS. I miss the park identity. I miss the the sorcerers hat, even if it was blocking the view of the grand theatre. But mostly I miss the Studio Backlot Tour and the Great Movie Ride. I felt that those 2 rides kinda identified the park to me as a celebration of Hollywood. Now it's just kinda....a bunch of rides.
Epcot had really 2 purposes. The front area (Future World) was educational about the world around us, and the World Showcase was education about the cultures of the world. I do not have a problem with IP per se. But I do hate to lose the identity. I am not a fan of three caballeros, BUT I feel it still fits.... It's inside Mexico, and you still have all the culture there. The ride still showcases the Mexico streets.
As much as I morn the loss of the DreamMaker, again I still feel that at least Imagination BELONGS. It teaches imagination, but Figment is your instructor.
I did not feel like the Nemo update to the living seas fits. The ride doesn't teach anything. It's just showing.... nemo. Once you get to the seas area, at least it retains that part.
Test Track I really dislike. The old test track that showed that they were engaging antilock brakes, and what happened when they did, I felt was really cool and it was neat to see that technology in action (I never disabled them in my car and tried to skid on ice....). It would have ben really cool to do something based on self driving, or hybrids, or whatever else is coming down the pike in automotive safety.
I would not have minded some educational material in GotG but with the IP involved. To me that honors what EPCOT is meant to be. I am not however a fan of a straight up IP ride. I.E. I want the parks to retain their identity, but I do not mind IP mixed in as long as the park still retains a theme and is not just a collection of rides. Just like in MK, I would not like to see Space Mountain in Frontier Land, or PoTC in Tomorrowland, I think each park needs to maintain it's identity. If GotG would work by picking it up and plopping it into the middle of HS, then it's the wrong ride for EPCOT. You should be able to look at the ride by itself and say "This ride belongs in Animal Kingdom", or it's poorly themed.
Does that make sense?

Striking that perfect balance to the original purpose of Epcot with IP injected relative to the educational point of the attraction itself would be a decent landing place for me. Technically GoTG uses the guise of Epcot as the perfect place to do an extraterrestrial exposition is a bit of a stretch - but not like completely out of the park (literally)
From a purely identity standpoint, I guess you could say that if that is the theme, EPCOT is the right place for it. I.E. an extraterrestrial exposition does not belong in MK, AK, or HS.
However - and I have not seen the ride mind you - I still think it needs to have something educational about it. Are the GotG teaching us anything about space? Like showing us a quasar, or a black hole and what they are? That would have been cool.
PERSONALLY, I would have really liked to see something there about cold fusion though since that area was always about how to world would meet it's energy needs. If they wanted a space ride, they should have updated Mission Space.
Again, I am ambivalent on IP. If they want to have Peter Quill show us his cold fusion drive on his spaceship, or if they want... I dunno. Wall-e to show us how their ship generates energy, I am all in.
But (again, I have not seen it) - is it a pavilion, or just a ride? It looks like just a ride, and that's a shame. I would have liked to retain the concept of an exploration of how we create and use energy and where we might get it in the future.
They do talk about a cosmic generator don't theyFrom a purely identity standpoint, I guess you could say that if that is the theme, EPCOT is the right place for it. I.E. an extraterrestrial exposition does not belong in MK, AK, or HS.

It is intended to be educational about the planet Xandar, home of the Nova Corps. Then some stuff happens....![]()

Thats part of the magic - you gotta believe!!! (I was being tongue in cheek on the Cosmic Generator thingy ... just in case)I am not sure I would qualify that as education about the real world. Unless someone can prove to me that Xandar really exists, has representatives here, and there really is a cosmic generator. In which case... beam me up, Scotty.

I absolutely hate the new Test Track! The old version was so cool. From the queue all the way through the attraction, it was so fun and informative and I miss it so much!Test Track I really dislike. As often mentioned by one of the vloggers I watch, Test Track is one of those situations that I get to do on my commute every day - but have to admit to loving it as a kid.I absolutely hate the new Test Track! Just bring back Body Wars. Fun AND educational!
Everyone needs to stop saying Disney is putting IP into the parks. Just call it what it is, marketing or a living commercial.
