My apologies if this is stupid question, but I am always a room only person. This will be my first package since my land/sea package.

When you are dining at a restaurant, let's say Concourse, Le Cellier, Mama Melrose, etc..... do you have to tell them that you are using the dining plan so that they calculate your appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks correctly or do you just tell them when you hand them your "Key to the World" card when they bring you your check?

Also, when you are using the Dining Plan, are your menu choices limited or can you order the same appetizers, entrees and desserts that are available to everybody else?

Sorry if my questions are redundant. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

At every restaurant we encountered. They first asked us if we were on the dining plan, then they told us what it included. The only place that you could not get anything you wanted was at Teppanayki. But we still had a great meal there.

I would think it would be better to tell the server up front so you don't have any surprises at the end.

Hi,

We just came back from a 7n/8d trip and we were asked at every table service place if we were on the Dining Plan when we were seated. We were not so it was no big deal. Alfredo's indicated that there were some limiations on what you could order if we were on the plan so the woman who was waiting on us said they always ask up front.

We have the DDE card so it is 20% off with almost no limitations.

I agree--We are planning on POFQ 11/1-11/6 2006, 2d trip.

OK I fess up==this is my first post since signing up today. I love the restaurant and dining boards, and trying to figure out how to post etc..

Welcome to the DIS! :) :grouphug:

Thanks guys! Still looking around trying out how to do things...

We like to do a sit down dinner daily- so I figure for that alone the Dining plan will pay off...worried tho it seems we might have to pay oop for breakfasts...

I would let them know ahead of time. Then you can be sure of exactly what you can order. You can order the same appetizers, desserts, drinks for each person covered on the dining plan. Last time I was at the Concourse Steakhouse, they had a special where you could where you could add-on additional shrimp to your meal for an extra $7 or so. We each ordered an appetizer, meal, add-on shrimp, and dessert. For 2 people the total came out to around $110. If you plan ahead for your restaurants, the dining plan can be well worth it.

Thanks so much for asking that question.
I was wondering the same thing. :earboy2:

There was no consistency from restaurant to restaurant. My wife and I found it amusing how each time we sat down at a table service place we got a different spiel about what was included and what was not. Some places the kids got appetizers some not. Some places they could get milk. Some not. Some places they could get refills on milk. Some not. At Whispering Canyon the server said "order anything you want I don't care." So we got milkshakes as our drinks and other places like Le Cellier would not bring us milk for the kids because "they get audited regularly." It was a joke and huge pain in the butt.

BTW, we never ate lunch. We used our CS for breakfast if we had at a TS dinner and vise versa if we had a TS breakfast. It was just too much food to eat 3 meals a day. We used our snack credits for water.

Yes I figure either eat breakfast, snack lunch, sit down dinner, or snack it for breakfast, early lunch then dinner later....too many choices!

We did an early counter service lunch around 11:30, then had a table service dinner later anywhere from 6:00-8:00. This arrangement worked out great for us.

But the dining plan only allows 2 meals a day, so why did you feel like you had to eat 3? Just curious. :confused3

What items at Teppanyaki were you not allowed to order?

If you do end up wanting to order something that isn't "allowed" on the plan, do you just have to pay something extra? Or would you have to pay for the entire entree, off the plan?

At Teppanyaki (SP) you are no longer allowed to order Sushi for an appetizer. Also Lobster is now considered an "Add-On" and not one of the combination meals.
We had a great meal there in October. We found plenty to eat, the service was wonderful and our chef was fun.
HTH

If they don't bring it up first I would do so most definately. Also if you have little ones and some that are not included on the plan tell them up front because we had a real problem with them charging DD1's meal against our dining plan credits and I must have spent the first 3 days we were there at the guest services desk because of it.

No I did not feel I needed to eat 3 meals but some folks do and pay oop for breakfast. Really, what I meant to say was it was too much food to eat a huge lunch and then a huge dinner. That is why we used our credits for breakfast instead of lunch. Breakfast and dinner instead of lunch and dinner. Breakfast and dinner was more spread out and you don't get as much food at breakfast making it much more manageable. That is what I meant...

We will have 3 dining credits- me, DH and DD age 14, but am planning to do some meals splitting 2 dinners 3 ways... anyone had a problem ordering 2 meals, splitting 3 ways but charging just the 2 credits?
