Hi! I'm new to this board and wanted to get some creative ideas to announce to my kids that we're going to Disney in May.

I have arranged to receive a postcard on its way from Florida from "Mickey" and I was wondering how I can incorporate that into the announcement too!

Any ideas to share?

Thanks

Forgot to add that they are 10 and 8 years old

Find someone on the DIS who is going to WDW soon and ask them to send your kids a postcard. It could say something like, "Golly! I can't wait to meet you in person. See ya' real soon. Mickey"

My kids just received a postcard from Mickey. The younger two were so excited!

I was thinking of how to surprise my kids next time we go and I thought it might be fun to get one of those old fashioned alarm clocks (with the bells on either side), have it set to go off in the morning of our trip. Next to the alarm clock I would have a beutiful envalope with an invatation maybe a Mickey stuffed animal holding it. Have all bags packed and ready to go. Just a thought! Good luck to you and I hope your trip is Magical! Nettii:goodvibes

Try a Disney enchanted call: https://secure.uvoxnetworks.com/disney/

I'm not really sure what exactly you could come up with from it, different characters can make different calls. I do know at Christmas Mickey was calling people on Christmas day to announce the trip, so I'm sure there is something there.

We did a really fun thing to announce it to our kids, or rather my MIL did. We knew that my in-laws were taking the family over spring break but our kids and nieces hadn't been told yet. We were getting together for my birthday and my MIL decided it would be a great time to tell them because they totally wouldn't expect it. There are 11 people from our family going so my MIL made 11 3X5 index cards with one or more words on them (depending on the childs reading ability). The cards when read in order said that we would be going to WDW on our DD's 6th birthday for spring break. They planned it for us to read all the way up to the last card, my DH, a couple times and then the last time around my DH announced that we were going to WDW. The kids had an absolute ball with it and were jumping up and down with excitement:jumping1:. It was a really fun way to do it. Then because it was my birthday I decided to make the kids a reverse b-day present to add to the fun. I made each child a memory box from smaller shoe boxes. I took 4X6 photo mattes, red and yellow fabric and Mickey colored trims and WDW themed stickers(glue them on with a glue gun so they stay) and decorated each box differently based on what each child liked the most at D. I glued the matte on the top of the box (covered with fabric to match the top) on three sides and then slid a picture of each one on their last trip to WDW (if you don't have that use a picture of the castle or something). They all loved there boxes and talked about what they would put in them when we came back, and after our trip we will change the picture to one from this trip. They really turned out cute if I do say so myself:worship:  So those are my ideas:idea: for you.

Have a great trip with your kids and I hope however you decide to tell them you have a lot of fun with it.:)

We are planning a trip to DL and I am going to do a treasure hunt to announce our trip. I am going to look for disney realted stuff -- notebooks, pencils, crayons, coloring books, snacks, p.j.'s, tote bag -- stuff they can take on the plane with them for the trip. I'm going to put a cute note saying that we are going to DL. I think it will be fun.
Also, they sell Mickey Begian waffle makers -- it would be cute to make Mickey waffles and have a special breakfast to announce your tip to DW!!
have fun!!
