Anniversary Years

I was just realizing how close WDW's 50th really is (for those of us who save for a trip every few years, anyway) and I was wondering:

How do the anniversary years work? Will they decorate for it in January and leave it up all year, or just a couple months prior to the formal anniversary of the Park's historical opening day?

TIA.

Some of the earlier anniversaries, the official event would begin around September 1 a month before the anniversary date and then go through the entire following year. Hence visitors throughout 1997 got to experience "the cake".
But I don't recall much about the 40th, or if there even was one.

I was there for the Cake Castle at the 25th anniversary celebrations, and if I have to save for two years I'll be there at the 50th. Maybe they'll paint the castle gold. :D

WDW did more for DL's 50th then it did for it's own 40th. Since the 25th, WDW anniversaries have not been much of anything. If they do nothing for the 50th I will lose all faith.

Fear not. I've heard it described as "an event you'll be able to see from the moon", with a marketing blitz designed to fill every single on-property room for the entire celebration.

I have heard things too but they still are a few years away and can still very much screw it up.

Given how successful the "extended" 60th anniversary was for DLR, I expect a lengthy celebration. I think the exact timing will depend on how on target they stay with their schedule for sprucing things up.

Oh, and expect lots of cupcakes.

Don't know what they'll do for 50th, but for the 45th (now) we're enjoying some 20% off anniversary specials on dining with our AP's (until Sept). All the more reason not to have the DDP now. We have saved 20% off several meals already - both TS & CS.

We did DL for the 60th. If WDW does half of what they did for it's 50th it will still be incredible. Though I'm thinking it will be even bigger.

I hope it's bigger. And better. Because that would be a win for everyone.

But I do think part of the reason they did so much for the 60th at DLR was to please their local AP base. They really hold their feet to the fire out there in a way the tourist base in Orlando doesn't.

Which is the only reason I am worried about the WDW 50th.

since there will be a ceo change before the 50th, it can go any direction.. personally, it's 5 years away, we're getting all kinds of new things.. i'm fine but do want to see a celebration at least as large as what paris just did for the day... I've never found any of the anniversaries thrilling.

These types of things get planned years in advance. They are planning for this already. Capital will have to be invested for the 50th likely before Iger leaves.
