Does anyone have a problem with not only their ankles/feet swelling while walking at Disney but also the back of your ankles turning red and feeling very tender and maybe even itching a little? :confused3 For the last few years, this has happened to me every time that I go to Disney. Not quite sure what causes that. Any thoughts?

I would guess maybe medication or not enough water intake.

I have a horrible time with my hands swelling....I really try to up my water while at Disney and keeping an eye on salt intake.

Doesn't that symptom tend to occur with circulation issues where the blood pools in the lower extremities because your body can't pump it back up again the way it should? It could be that at home, you tend to keep your feet up so you don't see it. I would see my family Dr and then request a referral for a heart specialist if it were me.

I hope you feel better:grouphug:

Thanks for the advice. When it first started happening, I thought that maybe I was getting sunburned from the sun bouncing off the pavement. But the next time I went, I wore long pants and it still happened. True enough - I don't drink as much water as I should but I've been on the same medications for years. I think that I will give my doctor a call about this. My feet stay cold year round so I wonder if in fact that I do have a circulation problem. Thanks so much for ya'lls input!:)

i have what are called "physical allergies", which is a reaction of the skin to external stimuli - my skin gets all bright red and itchy and sometimes swells - it can be a reaction to things like vibrations, sun, or even your own sweat. this happens to my legs whenever i go running... it may be that you have a "physical allergy" to your own sweat, or the vibrations from the constant walking... they are not a big deal, but they sure are annoying!

Talk to your doctor. If you're short of breath with the swollen ankles - you need to see a heart doctor.

Are you an active person? Most people walk more miles than they realize in WDW. It could also be you are wearing shows that are not fitting you properly, not enough arch support and the heel box may be too small/short for you. Are you overweight?? Fat cells actually hold on to water. The more fat cells you have, the more water you retain. A diet high in sodium , sugar and carbs will make your body hold water. Tips for you: Eat lean protein, fruit, veggies and whole grains. Drink lots of water...not diet soda which has hidden sodium. Steer clear of things like popcorn, hot dogs, french fries... Tonga Toast is not a good idea for breakfast. I personally find WDW food to be WAAAYYYY too salty. At night cool your feet down and massage a peppermint foot lotion and lay on the floor or bed and rest your feet up against the wall and keep them there for 10-15 min and stretch your calf muscles out by pointing your toes forward and back.
For irritation on your heel, try Body Glide on your feet. It is a protective lotion that acts as a shield and prevents chafing, irritation and blisters. It sounds like your feet are swelling and getting too big for your shows and causing them to rub against the back of your shoes.

I am sensitive to sodium, and my feet swell when in WDW...and believe me I do over 10,000 steps a day - LOL. The combination of the highly salted food and the heat will make you retain water.

Of course you should see your Dr.

However I had this for years. Started after I had knee surgery as a teen. When in WDW or anywhere standing or walking a long time, I wear not only Crocs, but the Crocs RX sock. This helped BIG TIME, no swelling or sorness or pain!!!! Also I swear by Aleve!:thumbsup2
