We are going at the very end of August for the first time. My DD adores characters and also adores drawing/ art, so I think this would be right down her alley. Would she be able to follow the instructor, or is it more geared to adults? She is a very smart child but her fine motor is not amazing so she might be a bit slow with the actual drawing.

Also, any opinions about HS vs the Downtown Disney option? We are staying at POR so likely to get there at least once.

Thanks!

I would definitely let your daughter try the animation academy.

I find some of the instructors to be better than others at giving simple step by step instructions, but I would think a 7 year old would have a decent chance to follow it. And, if she can't there's nothing lost. Drawing freehand she would probably do better than I do.

We did this at HS when our daughter was I think 4. She had no trouble following the directions, and had a good time. If your daughter is able to sit quietly and follow instructions, then she should be fine (I know some kids have trouble focusing on things like this).

My 7 year old boy did it twice last trip and came out with recognizable characters. One warning about it is the group chooses the character, so it could be a character she does not care for or know of.

Awesome: we will definitely do it at least once then. I figure if it is a character she doesn't like, we could offer to do it again :). Thanks everyone!

My 8 year old did it and we both had a good laugh at how badly ours turned out. If it's a sensitive child they might get upset if it doesn't turn out well, but if they can laugh at themselves a bit it will be good. Of course, I'm terrible and some kids drawings in the room did turn out better than mine.

my son has done this at 3 and 5 and enjoys it! he tried to follow the directions when he was 3 it just did not come out! lol

This is one of DD7's favorite things to do at Disney. Go for it! If you want a test run, you can find some of the "classes" on you tube.
