Animation Academy for Littles

Wondering how little your littles were when they tried Animation Academy for the first time. I did it on my last visit and loved it so much. I think my DD who loves to draw would think it's brilliant, but I also want to be cognizant of skill level. I would hate for her to get super frustrated and not enjoy it. She is five, going on 13.

Have you taken your littles? How did it go?

I had to do it with my 3 year old. 6 year old liked it. 8 year old was crying that his wasn’t good enough so we got more paper do he could do again and now he can draw Eeyore! Probably depends on the kid. I thought it was awesome and a nice break

Mine started at 4. She loves it and we’ve done it dozens of times now (she’s 5). I recommend that you pick an easy (simple and round) character to start, and talk about having fun even if it isn’t perfect, etc. before you start. We did Jack and then Sally the first time, and they’re great starter characters. The only one she’s ever gotten upset about was Daisy because she couldn’t get the bill right at all. She loves doing Jack-Jack the most.

I’ve seen people grab two sheets of paper for littler kids so if they totally screw it up, they have another one underneath to try again.

If they're doing Baymax, he's great. Very round.

I have to admit this prompted a conversation with a coworker about round characters, and how some might consider us round characters. And now I feel like Baymax may be my alter ego...

It will definitely depend on her personality. Does she have a perfectionist streak? One of mine does and gets frustrated when it isn’t perfect. I just flipped his paper over and he did a new one. I took them for the first time when the youngest was 4 and they had a great time. Did you know they post a schedule of the characters to be drawn? I learned that from another thread. You could take her to see Crush or the Frozen characters and then check the board to see who will be drawn. I’d recommend a character that she likes to hold her interest so you could check the list and see who might appeal. It’s a fun process. You could always talk about it beforehand and tell her she can just watch if she doesn’t want to draw.
