Animals @ AKV

So just a silly question. When will the animals be brought to the AKVs will they be there when the first rooms are released? Cause a SV room isnt worth it w/o anything in the Savanah.

They are there already. The first phase of AKV is a construction phase at the existing AKL.

In fact, I thought I saw a giraffe with a construction hat on in one of the most recent pictures.

Yeah, that giraffe is one of the construction supervisors.

Twice recently we've gone to AKL just to admire the home that we'll be having and each time we've seen plenty of animals out on the savannah from public viewing areas. There's lots to see now at the present building, and the newer building will have new animals!

I just got back from the AKL and there is far less animlas now then when it opened! They just got rid of some in the lats 2-4 months ago! They now longer have gemsbock at the lodge! Every year you go there is less and less animals! I hope they get more soon or we will stay at polynesian instead!

Actually, the animals at AKL are all audio animatronic, and several models are out for the annual maintenance cycle, and being upgraded with the latest computer software. They'll be back soon!

We were visiting AKV on Wednesday, in the public viewing room, when out of the brushes ran these 4 cute, pig related animals. Whatever they found to eat/enjoy in the dust of the roads I don't know, but they amused me with their antics for quite awhile. The food truck came around and so did some giraffes, and a few ostriches came over to see what was going on as well.

We also enjoy talking to the CM's the most enjoyable one on that visit was a fellow from Botswana. I enjoy reading Alexander McCall Smith's books, many of which are set in Botswana, and this CM knows the author and says he's a likeable fellow, good to know.

I went on the sunset safari and they said those pigs are Red River hogs. They're not always out.

There was a reason for taking out the gemsbok but I can't remember what it was now. Either they didn't get along with some other critter, or they weren't doing well at the Lodge and were moved.

The hogs are cute! I look for them at the lodge now.

As you walk in the lobby from the parking lots, walk straight past the check in desks, they will be on your left, and just after them, on your left is a room. There's a window wall, and chairs to sit on, and a smallish porch to walk out on.

That's also the room you meet in to go on the sunrise safari.

I believe that's the sunset overlook...one of our favorite places at the lodge. Lots on neat "brick a brack" around the room, a huge viewing window, and a walk out porch....and it's usually empty.
