I have been seeing this feral cat around my neighborhood and I have been trying to catch it to get it fixed. Well she was pregnant and had 3 kittens. So i have been setting a live animal trap everynight in my neighbors yard (they are living under their shed) and so far I have caught 2 kittens and had them fixed. Now I am not being charged for this at my vets because my best friend works there, however today my neighbor DEMANDS that I bring the cats and show her them so she makes sure that I havent had them euthanized. WTH...like im going to go to all the trouble to catch the cats to have them put to sleep. I am so aggravated. normally my vet charges a $35 feral cat sterilization fee and im thinking about asking her to make a donation to my vets office for that amount...what do you think? :cat:

First of all let me say I really respect what you're doing :)

Having said that, I think you're over reacting a bit. I would be glad to show the neighbor that the kittens were alive and well. I could totally see some sicko trapping the kittens and getting rid of them (euthanizing being one of the kinder options). I know you're not that sicko, but I"m not sure what kind of relationship you and your neighbor have

If you like her and you want to get along with her, show her the kittens or the proof. If you can't stand her, tell her to pound sand.

My neighbor knows that I personally have 5 dogs and 1 cat and I also foster animals. So I can have anywhere between 6-12 animals at my house at any given time  I did show her the cats when I went and picked them up at the vets and i have already found a home for them, my friend has a farm and has been asking me to get him a barn cat and he agreed to take the 2 kittens I have caught along with the other kitten and mom if I catch them. It just aggravates me that she is acting like that when she KNOWS how much of an animal lover I am.

Another thanks for doing that. :goodvibes :grouphug: If it makes your neighbor feel better, just show her the kittens. I would do it in a heartbeat.

I have just the opposite problem. I'm also trying to catch a feral cat and her two kittens at my neighbor's house. However, my neighbor doesn't want the cats to be fixed. She wants them taken to the animal shelter where they will be euthanized. I told her that once they are caught, I will be glad to get them fixed and they can live with me until I find another home for them. However, she doesn't want that. She thinks they will just show up at her house again. :sad2:

By the way, I wish our vets had a special fee for feral sterilization. I have to pay a lot more.

I wouldn't have a problem showing her the cats, but my problem is the demanding of them being shown to her. I don't do "demands" very well...I'm not a child who needs to be told what to do.

would it be cheaper to drive here and drop them off and I could find them a new home...I am in Louisiana...I dont know where in Arkansas you are but for the 3 it would only be $105

Oh, that is so sweet of you!!!!!

I live in NW Arkansas. I doubt you could find a home for the momma. She's pretty wild and a little mean even though she is warming up to me - some. I thought it would be a good idea to get her kittens while they are still "trainable". One is a little blond kitten and the other one is a solid black kitten. They are both so cute but neither will let me get close to them at this point.

I'm such a sucker for cats. I just can't stand to see them homeless. DH gets on to me for trying to save them all but I do what I can.

As for the fixing in LA, $35 sure beats $100. How far over the border do you live in LA? :)

Yikes! A little too far for me, unfortunately. Thanks for the offer of trying to find a home for the kittens, though. Maybe I'll have some luck around here.

Good luck with your neighbor! It's too bad she doesn't trust you. Maybe like you said...you could ask for a donation to help with the spaying. Perhaps that will shut her up. :teeth:

:offtopic:
By the way, the last time I was in Baton Rouge I ate at a little hole-in-the-wall type of place that served excellent seafood. I can't recall the name of it but I'm sure that Baton Rouge is loaded with all kinds of places like that as well as great cajun food restaurants. I sure wish we could get some of that around here.

I used to do volunteer work for the spay club here in PA. We would get calls of feral cats, trap them ( a lot of times easier said then done) get them spayed or nuetured by voulunteer veternarians and release them back after they had shots and sterilization, this was the hardest part was setting them free again. I wanted to keep them all and make them indoor pets with lots of love. I think its a wonderful thing you do. Now that the kids are older I would like to get back into it.

We have a feral cat colony on our property that we take care of. There are 6 regulars that we feed daily and a couple of others that come by every now and then. It took awhile to catch them, but we finally have all the females spayed and all but one of the males neutered. One actually had a litter of kittens on our deck and we fostered her and her babies inside until we could get them adopted out.

Our nearest neighbor complained to me that the cats were sleeping in her flower beds. Then I find out she's been FEEDING them. :confused3 If she'd quit feeding them, they would stay on our property. I finally had to tell her that until she quit feeding them, I couldn't help her. "But I like to see them, just not in the flowers." We have a huge house built for them that is insulated and heated for the winter. But they are indeed feral and most cannot be handled.

I respect what youre doing.

I've done this the hard way. Minus the live animal traps (and I have teh scars to show for it)

Your neighbor needs a reality check. They're nto her kittens. She has no say so over them. She can't DEMAND anything (except maybe you staying off her property) but if she does that, then she'll have to catch the kitties herself.

I'd hand her a statement from the vet certifying that they had been spayed/neutered. Attached to the statement would be a large notice specifiying where to send "DONATIONS" for this important service.

we caught the Mom last night and she is at the vets getting fixed right now :thumbsup2 One more to go!!!!!!!!! I think I will ask her to donate to the vets office

That's a real good idea! Too bad DH would KILL ME if I brought another stray animal home or else I'd try to get the mama cat and a kitten from you!!! But we just lost 2 of our pets (our cat from Feline Leukemia and the dog got out and was hit by a car) and I would love another!! Right now we're down to one cat, one dog and a guinea pig. I told DH that if he moved out, then we'd have plenty room for more! hehe Somehow, he didn't like that suggestion much! :lmao:
