Hi :) Can anyone please describe Dinoland to me? I've read about it on the Disney world website and in books but I would love to hear from someone who has actually been there. Is the boneyard worth going through or is it just a big sandbox? Is tricera top worth waiting in the long lines for? I am limited in time because I want to devote only a monrning to Animal Kingdom and want to do things that are considered pretty big attractions. For example if the boneyard is just a big sandbox then I'd rather go to Epcot early and have my kids enyoy the living seas and kidstops. My kids are 3 and 5. Thank you, I would appreciate any feedback you have. We are going in July I don't know if the time of year makes a big differnce.

DD's loved dinoland. It's looks like a big carnival!! I don't remember seeing anything to dig really in the boneyard to be honest. We were just there on Friday. There is a big playground type thing where you can climb and slide and run through, then there are caves to go through and you can jump on the dino paw prints to hear dino roars. There is a little spouting fountain to cool the kids and parents down! Triceratops spin is like dumbo, we were there twice last week and the wait was under ten minutes. There is also primeval whirl which is like a rollar coaster. DD5 loved that one. You can get a fast pass/rider swap for it. There are also a couple of carnival games you can play just like a canival for $2. I don't know which one I would chose those. Epcot was a lot of fun as well. Good luck!

Dinoland from the air

The boneyard is a pretty cool playground - part of it is a sandbox (or rather, gravel box), the rest has slides, climbing webs, etc. It's hard to keep track of the kids though. Not something to plan your day around. Triceratops Spin is just Dumbo with a horn on its nose.

You can really get extreme opinions about Dinoland. Some love it, some hate it! I'm in the former category, and Triceratop Spin is one of my "must do" rides at WDW. Yup, "Baby Dumbo Dinosaurs". Did you ever see the movie "Vacation"? If so, you'll understand when I say I expect to see Clark Griswald and his family around every corner. I just think it's so corny there!

I think your children will enjoy Dinoland. If you go to AK, does this mean you won't be able to go to Epcot? You might want to go to AK in the morning ... plan a few rides - they will like Triceratop alot! Maybe rest some in the middle of the day and go to Epcot before dinner ... maybe it will be cooler then. If you have park hopper tickets, this is possible.

The thought of missing a park sounds horrible ... just teasing ... but with little ones you may not be able to get to it all. :teeth:

Yes, it is basically a big sand/gravel box with a buried dino skeleton, but the kids (dd7 & dd5) loved it. It is a great, shaded, cool place to take a break and wait for a fast pass to mature. I didn't care for the paved road area or the carnival crap...I can get that at any county fair...I found it very un-disney. We did enjoy triceratops spin, dd5 was too short for Primeval Whirl (48" requirement) so we skipped that one, but it looked like fun.

With kids that age, a morning in AK should be enough - my itinerary for that age would be boneyard, TS, Safari, and Lion King and some animal gazing...alot of the other rides are for older/taller kids.

Is your DD5 extremely tall or did they not enforce the 48" minimum height restriction? My DD6(well she'll be 6 in a couple of weeks)is only 45 1/2" and very disappointed that she doesn't meet the requirements. We just meassured her again this morning.

dinoland area is imo cute in a tacky sort of mom and pop roadside tourist place. the boneyard area is pretty nice imo but if you are only spending a total of 1/2 day for ak i wouldn't even go there as i think it would be hard getting the kids away once you got there. i'd do safari, ttbab( maybe if your youngest isn't put off by 3 d bugs) lion king and the animal trails, maybe the rest of the camp area if you have time. i just don't think you'd be able to do more than that in a morning

Ok well i know my 3 yr old brother absolutly loved the dinoland play place.i mean for older children like myself its a lil blah but for ur lil ones age it is perrrrrfect:)

DD9 still likes to go into the "Boneyard" to play - more so the tunnels and nets, and not so much the "gravel pit" now that she is older. It is a good place to sit back and chill for me, as I sit and wait in one spot while she plays - I am sure with littler ones, they will keep you on your toes!

Here is a picture when she was six (and we were at WDW on vacation) before we moved to Orlando.

She likes Primeval Whirl too, and was disappointed when my great nephew was here the other week that he just missed the 48" requirement- they wouldn't even budge for 1/2"!!!! They did ride TS! She also likes the carnival games, and for the most part I tell her NO!!!!! On occasion I have given in!!!!

My girls are 3 and loved it. We did not do any of the carnival stuff, but we walked right onto the baby dino (exactly like dumbo) ride and they loved it. The Dino Dig was great for my kids.

My DN6 loved it. The whole atmosphere of the place reminded my brother and I of our youth in Coney Island (but much neater, and without the trash, and without the sleeziness! :rotfl: ) And Primeval Whirl is probably my favorite roller coaster now.
