:guilty: I just had to write and say the Animal Kingdom Lodge was beautiful but we had the little animals above us ever night they ran back in forth till around ten or so then around in the 6am in the morning it started again...I was surprised because we have stayed at the Movies on the bottom floor and never heard anyone...I was looking forward to getting home to my own bed...
As far as sleep we got little and I know I would never want to be on the 4th floor there again...My daughter never runs around in a hotel because we think of others and I wish more people would do the same...I think the parks are for letting loose...

Sorry you had trouble with the "little animals" upstairs! Thanks for the warning about that. I wonder if some Disney hotels do have thinner floors/ceilings than others, just as some seem to have better wall soundproofing than others.

This always concerns me when we stay on an upper floor at a hotel because we have two little boys (preschooler and toddler) and it is almost impossible to keep them from running around. We try to keep them still and I always bring "quiet" things for them to do in the room but it is so hard. We certainly don't let them play tag or do races or anything like that but still I know their little feet are making noise for the folks downstairs. We try to get a first floor room whenever possible! :)

Sorry to hear this, we have never had major trouble with the little animals like you but I have heard of it many times on these boards. Some people need parenting 101 class Iguess.

Not that this matters, but if you were on 4, your little "squirrels" were probably staying concierge. Maybe too many free smarties? LOL

We had the same problem when we stayed there too. Noisy children that began at 6am and didn't quiet down until about midnight!! By far this was the noisiest hotel we have stayed at, yes even compared to the All Stars!! :earseek:

This goes to show you problems and everyone can experience the same thing at different resorts. I just posted my MAJOR noise problems at the Poly on the boards, however when we are at AKL, we didn't hear a peep. We were on the 3rd floor at AKL, and could have been subject to wild running animals above us...but were fortunate that it didn't happen to us at the AKL.

However, we were on the top floor at the Poly, and had horrid neighbors next to us and heard loud noises, and running through the halls there. It was the worst experience I EVER had at staying at ANY hotel/resort! And this includes high to low end hotel/resorts.

Sorry that happened to you. I know and understand how nerve racking it can make your trip. It really turned our trip to a disaster!

This is the reason we usually request an upper floor room. We always made sure our kids did not run around the room when they were younger. Now, we occasionally have to remind them to keep their voices down when we're up early or returning to the room late.

I just think some people 1) have no control over their kids and 2) don't give any consideration to who they are disturbing with their noise.

When I first started reading your post, being Animal Kingdom Lodge and all... I thought you meant you had real *animals* up above you!!!

I was imagining those watusi cows and maybe some zebras tip-toeing across the roof. Now THAT'S taking theming way overboard!!!!! :teeth:

Sorry to hear that you heard little "animals" running above you. We were just there this past weekend and didn't hear anything!! We were on the 2nd floor so that might be why. I loved the resort (as it was my first time at that lodge - I have been to Wilderness and POFQ) I will definately be going back there. I do know how nerve racking that can be - one time we stayed in a hotel in Okeechobee, Fl and the walls were paper thin - the neighbors came back late at night after being at the race track (we had been there earlier) and they were way too loud for how late it was - and I don't think they even cared!! I can't stand rude people like that.

Just got back from a short trip to DisneyWorld and a first at the AK lodge.
My friend really wanted to stay there and I was lukewarm but willing, esp after reading all the wonderful posts.
But I have to admit that I was unimpressed. The Lodge great room was pretty...tho it was very dark indeed!. We didn't have any wild parties or noises in our 2 night stay BUT: I had requested a location in either one of two savanaas, any floor and instead got a room in Sunset savannah directly over a PEN. I asked what the PEN was for and was told that it was there in case there was an EMERGENCY. I suppose in the event of an act of war or something that they would herd the animals (or the guests..I was never clear which) into this pen. But of course UNLESS there was an emergency, we had a room overlooking a pile of dirt surrounded by a high fence over which we couldn't really see all that well...ie...no possibility of seeing any animals from our balcony. And the front desk did not care a whit and actually lied to us: First, we checked in @ 2 and of course our room wasn't ready but they gave us the first two numbers...so I knew floor and savannah. I went down the hall to check out this savannah as it wasn't one of the two I had requested and I noted the big pen and the fact that a good portion of the rooms overlooked this big pen and that the second floor had a most unappealing view of only the big pen. So I went back to the desk and asked for a change...before actually having the room assignment (they keep it a secret so that you can't sneak over to it early since it might not be 'made up') I was told that the CM didn't know what room we had so how could I want to exchange it becasue of the lack of view. I was told that the rooms were randomly assigned by computer....so then I asked why they took preferences in that case and was given a duh, I don't know stare. While I was being lied to (computers don't randomly give rooms unless the AK is different from all the other resorts in that reguard) a man next to me was asking (at 2:45 pm)to be assigned ANY room that was ready...he didn't care about the location anymore. His accent was British so I am assuming he flew from England that day as he said he and his wife were exhausted and jsut needed to nap....they were willing to give up a savannah view just to get a bed....They were told: Sir, our check in is from 3:30 -5:30 and we have no rooms available at the moment so just sit and wait.

This isn't the kind of service or empathy that one should receive at a delux resort.
We never did see any animal from our room...a bird flew over once, think it was a crow. We walked around to other view posts and saw some animals, but I guess it just doenst' feel the same.

I just read a poster who hated the Poly because of screaming kids and lack of remedy by the staff and I have to wonder....is Disney falling down on its laurels as to providing good service. Disney has always had somewhat of a 'you must do it our way' policy, but this lack of empathy on the part of the desk staff managers really troubles me. The maids and waitpeople were really kind throughout our stay at AK, but the front desk was like NaziDisney or something. WHat is going on?????

I won't stay at the AK again, just because I dont' think it worth the money. I was engaged at the Poly and loved it...but recently divorced so I may not feel good about going back there. I like Old Key West and Port Orleans and might try BoardWalk next time...like its location. So there are plenty of options. But I think maybe Disney needs to hear that the front desk people aren't doing their jobs insofar as trying to accommodate the guests best they can. We had such better treatment at a $63 Radisson the first night we flew in.
Gotta go for now, but will post about Merry Xmas party and CP later!

In my opinion I think the service of Disney has gone down the tubes. The last of my disney trips were in 1999. I NEVER had a problem with customer service or the lack of friendliness. I've stayed at a Disney resorts for a total of over 30+ times, and NEVER encountered what I did on this trip.

The check in person Javier at AKL was rude, curt, and unfriendly. I even tried to engage in conversation with him...and he never smiled once! I was simply checking in. Never asked anything from him, and yet I got an attitude???? He sounded like he was prerecorded. Even sighed many times when checking us in!!!! I get better service at McDonalds. At least there I've been served with a smile. What the h*ll??? But I blew it off to a bad day. But nevertheless, still sticks in my mind.

Then what I experienced at the POLY!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! And it was true, lack of attention, service, and empathy just floored me. And here I was supposed to be on vacation. Instead I'm having to deal with a situation because of their lack of dealing with one that as far as I'm concerned ruined our vacation. I believe these cast members are paid to do their job. And I can't imagine in training, they are told to be the way we have encountered them during this trip. I was not rude, I was no unreasonable even trying to deal with their lack of compentency and service. Even our check in cast member at the Poly had a monotone voice, and NEVER smiled once. I even tried to smile and make conversation with her. Disney needs to improve their service if they expect me to keep coming back and pay their rising prices of hotels/tickets.

:flower: Thanks for all the responses I have to say I will probably not stay there again 1) because I cannot afford to stay on the top floor 2) when your on vacation you need sleep to keep going especially at Disney...3) I was really upset at the fact you have a hotel room and that room is for sleeping and showering at Disney that stands true you get ready and your leave the room and you shouldn't have to worry about whether or not you can get sleep...I will go back to AStars first I never hearda thing!!! :grouphug:

You're in Disney. There are going to be loud children. Calling them animals is inexcusable and places the blame at the wrong door.

What's wrong with placing the blame on parents who allow their children to run wild and disturb everyone around them?

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!

Original op was probably referring to them as "little animals" because she was at the ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE. It probably sounded like animal's (dogs, elephants, monkeys, a wild back of boars) running back and forth above her. It probably sounded like the savanah at the lodge was above her.

I think people get toooo sensitive to what is posted on these boards! I don't think OP was referring to them literally as animals. Although if she was, I wouldn't blame her a bit!!!!!

She was just being cute. AKL......animals......they go together.....

Anyway....Yeah......so let's say, kids can run up and down the hallways at school, and in and out of tables at McDonalds......And up and down the isles at movie theatres.....These are all places where kids will be kids and some kids are loud...

Keeping someone awake at 6am is disrespectful. I don't think that teaching young children that concept, and setting limits, is going to keep them from feeling like it's ok to be a child.

I would have to say running in any of the places you mentioned would be disrespectful also.

We were never allowed to run in school, unless at recess, never in any restaurant even McDonald's, go to the playground, and definitely never in a movie theater regardless of what is playing. There are places for running and inside any building is not it. Sure in their youthful enthusiasm they will forget, but it is the parent's job to take them aside and gently remind them we do not run in the hallway of the hotel and we talk in quiet voices.

The problem today is, and Dr. Phil will certainly support this, parents have not taught their children to be respectful of others. It's all about allowing the child to do what they want to do when they want to do it.

They then grow up to be disrespectful adults that raise even worse children. It is a horrible cycle.
