We just returned from our annual Disney trip. We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge Villas and loved it. Someone I talked with at the pool highly recommended Animal Kingdom for future vacation. I looked on the website for AK and couldn't tell if any of the villas had views of the animals. Is it just the rooms that overlook them or is it the villas too? My daughter loves animals and I was told that the tour was fantastic and informative so we are thinking we might try AK next. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

Well that explains it! I was looking at the point chart and saw it listed so I just assumed there were villas there...What are the suites like? Better do more homework on this I guess! Thanks!

The point chart does in fact show AKL, but only if one wants to use points to stay at a non-DVC resort in WDW. The point chart also list the GF, Poly, CR and other resorts as well.

You would be using points to stay basically just like a cash paying person meaning you would get the same services as a cash paying visitor...daily maid service, etc.

With rare exceptions, using DVC points to stay at non-DVC resorts is not the best use of one's points...it simply costs too much.

Animal kingdom villas is part of dvc(disney vacation club) it is being built and they are selling points now.Animal kingdom lodge(akl) is the hotel.
Just like wilderness lodge has villas at wilderness lodge next to it , and beach club resort has beach club villas on the same property so will animal kingdom lodge. The villas at animal kingdom will have standard view rooms and savannah view just like the hotel does.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is in the midst of a renovation that will switch some 5th and 6th floor rooms in the Lodge into DVC villas. Those rooms will be available sometime this summer, but the official booking date is September 1st. Also, there will be an entirely separate building built in 2009 with many additional villas. AKV will become the 6th on-site DVC property. Sales began in March to existing DVC owners, and I believe they are open to all now. AKV owners can begin calling for reservatinos on May 16 (oops, that's this week!!) and non-owners can call June 6. The new AKV will have standard and savannah views, as well as some concierge rooms. They will be booked just like all other DVC properties - owners have an 11 month advantage, non-owners can reserve at 7 months.

Hope you enjoy a stay at Animal Kingdom sometime - it's an amazing resort!!

:)

Just so everyone realizes: The original start date of this post was from May of 2006.....so, at the time, there really WASN'T an AKV yet.

I hear ya.

I made the same mistake on another board the other day....not realizing the OP in the thread was close to 2 years old and had been "resurrected".
