Animal Kingdom Safari

The ostrich eggs are fake and little red in the truck at the end, but other than that they are all real :)
Nope, even the ostrich eggs are real - they've been hollowed out, but they're real, formerly-'live' ostrich eggs. I thought the same thing - so I asked :)

Hello all,

The animals are real, with the few exceptions that have been previously mentioned. One explanantion as to why they always seem to be in the same places, for the most part, is that Disney strageically places hidden feeders and water spots in prime locations to keep the animals where they can be readily seen from the safari vehicles.

Hope that helps,

Take care,

Bill ( who'll be safari-ing in a couple of days!!)

We also had a magical experience with the giraffes one morning in September -- they came RUNNING at full speed towards us and alongside the vehicles. It was the most amazing, awe-inspiring sight -- they're simultaneously so incredibly graceful, and so incredibly awkward!

And they're VERY fast.

Never thought I'd hear real giraffe hoofbeats, but did we ever!

In contrast, on this past trip last month, we saw NO giraffes the first trip, and an hour later only saw one at a great distance.

The tv special mentioned above runs often on the travel channel -- definitely worth seeing, especially how they put the Tree of Life together!

They also offer tours where you can go and see the veterinary offices and watch procedures being done.

Omg....see how fast the fake cattle can run!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We traveled with a group last year, and I really ticked some people off because I insisted the "mud tracks" for the road were fake (ie cast concrete). HOw dare I? The animals are real, the trees are real, the mud must be real. LOL.

I guess some people believe everything and otrhers believe nothing. ;)

By the way, it came up because thier driver went off the road and hit a tree. yikes. He SHOULDA been animitronics.

Speaking of animitronic people on safari, I sprained my ankle in the middle of a State Park trail, and I just sat on the ground with my kids until some people came by (I was afraid I'd pass out when I stood up, and they wouldn't know what to do). So when these other hikers came across the bridge, my then 4yo son jumps up and says, "are you real, or animitronics?" :rotfl2: what a goof.

They are real. They die. They have babies. You can google "death" animal kingdom and find some articles about animals dying there when the park first opened.

We went on the safari two times and they were in different places, moving around, etc. And we saw a surgery being done on one at conservation station.

You can also TIVO the Behind the Scenes at Animal Kingdom show that's on the Travel Channel all the time to show your husband how they keep the animals in the same areas, how they feed them, where they sleep at night, etc.

The animals at the AK are indeed real. The man who was in charge of animal stewardship at the AK when it opened now works at the company I work for. We have had several conversations about the animals at the AK, and the problems and challenges they pose. While much of the scenery and Little Red are fake, the animals themselves are quite real.

I meant real as in 'laid' there naturally... not hollowed out and glued for the tourists.

Every animal contained within the borders of the "Harambe Wildlife Reserve" is a real, live, breathing animal (including the crocodiles). (and if they're doing their job right, the drivers should remind you that you're leaving the reserve to go save Little Red)

And this guy is an EXPERT! Trust him!!!

(And by the way the Lions do NOT like the green repair trucks! I had a poor driver who decided we were stuck in the mud one time... uh no, she left the Emergency Brake on and at the first little hill up we had a small problem) They sent a wrecker for us and it proceeded us throughout the Safari. The guy from the truck said "watch the lion, he doens't like us" and he didn't. He was up roaring and pacing to get to that truck. So cool

I can assure you that the animals are real. What you might not know is that the Drivers are all animatronics.

Give Walt's Imagineers a nod here on their great work. There are 5 different models, 2 female and 3 male. One CM said they have over 2500 different variations on the Safari Spiel.

And as for the Ostrich eggs, they are real, they are female, and they taste real good with Canadian bacon.

That explains why I've had the same one like three times! :teeth:

The real reason that the animals are usually in the same areas is all of the fences and barriers- the safari is designed so that you won't see these borders, but they're there, so the animals are restricted to certain areas. For instance, you'll never see the elephants over in the big savannah with the tommies- they have to stick to their own area.

Disney also puts out food in certain areas near the safari path to make sure that the animals stay visible a large % of the time, so they also tend to gravitate towards those specific spots.

The animals are all real.

their just in the same spot because theres hidden fences and things like that to keep them in specific places.

the only fake animal is "little red" at the end of the ride.

Anyway the Ostrich eggs are also REAL. They don't hatch because Disney only has females.[/QUOTE]

Sounds like Jurrassic Park............they only had females too....remember?
