Starting early research for our August trip next summer. In my planning I am taking into account rain and heat. We are not types to return to the resort during the day....esp as we only have 6 park days so researching the AC / covered from sun situation on rides.

Have been looking at You Tube and ride descriptions as I've never been to Animal Kingdom. For the following rides:
  • Kali River Rapids - the queue is inside?
  • Dinosaur - the queue is inside? I believe that the ride itself is inside but let me know if I'm wrong
  • Navi River - queue starts outside (perhaps shaded parts within trees, etc) and then outside but covered? I read that the ride itself is in AC
  • Avatar - similar to Navi in that the queue starts outside but then covered? The ride is inside right?
  • Kilmanjaro Safaris - queue is outside but covered?
Any other AK good rides for extrerme heat? Thanks.

Hi there! I'll do my best to answer.

Kali River Rapids - a lot of the queue is outside and uncovered. As you get closer, there are covered sections of the queue.
Dinosaur - the queue and ride are all inside.
Navi River Journey - queue starts outside uncovered, is covered once you get closer. There are fans in the queue.
Flight of Passage - queue starts outside uncovered, inside queue once you get closer. Wait times are often very long for this ride, so there's a good chance you'll spend a lot of time waiting outside.
Safari - outside but covered queue.

To escape the heat, I would recommend Dinosaur, It's Tough to be a Bug (indoor 3D show), Festival of the Lion King (indoor show), and Finding Nemo the Musical (indoor show, assuming it returns before your trip). There's also a lot of things to do inside at the Conservation Station!

Thank you so much. That very much helps. Will come up with a plan and sounds like the attractions you mention are great for the afternoon when it will be the hottest. Also need to figure out Flight of Passage as we most likely won't be able to rope drop).

We don’t rope drop, not even for FoP. In early June we didn’t even go to the parks until 4 PM or later. For FoP we got in line around 5-10-15 minutes before park closing, and the wait was maybe half of what was posted.

In addition to those shows/rides to escape the heat, I would also recommend the bird show which is covered with nice ventilation in the back section. We saw the show on 7/4 which was a very hot and humid day. But we got the summer relief during the show which my family really enjoyed.

You can also take the train to Rafiki's planet watch station and take the animation drawing class which is inside with AC. My kids were taking the lesson while DH and I caught up with our zzzzzzzzzz in the back row. :cat:

Good to know. Thanks!
DH has one request for our Disney trip and that is breakfast at Boma (trip is next August so assuming it will be open by then). So with that, I doubt we could rope drop. And of course I will try for a FP but doubt we would get it as we are a party of 4 and AK will be day 4 or 5. So good strategy to line up near park closing.

Thanks! I have the bird show noted on my spreadsheet...so good to know. I have marked that it is cool at the back.

My DS quite enjoyed the animation building when we went to Disneyland so he might also like the class at Disney (he'll be a teen by then but still might find that interesting)...and my 13 year old too.
