Remember--No Kids and No Pets!

Cast of Characters--
Kathy--motorhome driver extraordinaire, 47
Barbara-'kid-sister' to Kathy and author of this report, 45
Debbie, friend and co-worker, 47
Minnie, 31 foot Winnebago Minnie Class C motorhome, also known at Nana's Little House

We woke up early, but not quite early enough to get to Animal Kingdom right at opening:( Oh, well, it is vacation, right? We grabbed a quick breakfast in Minnie, packed our fanny packs, grabbed our bikes and headed towards the Settlement for a bus. FW has a 'direct' AK bus, and it was loading when we got to the Settlement area. We threw our bikes in the general direction of the bike rack and Debbie ran up to the bus to get him to wait. She was able to gasp out enough to hold the bus, and we ran up.

We arrived at AK and saw several characters out front. Debbie and I stopped and got our photo made with Chip. We team-teach first grade and thought it would be a hoot to have this photo in our classroom!

Debbie had done the Festival of the Lion King show before and we hadn't, so this was a must. Kathy ran ahead to get FPs for KS and Debbie and I headed down to get in line for the first show. It was already hot! I've found that FW is about 10 degrees cooler that the rest of WDW, and AK is 10 degrees hotter!! We stood in line and sweated for a few minutes, and then the line moved up a little--there was a fan! Unfortunately, you had to be at least 6 feet tall to feel the breeze:( It must have been a fan for the trees! Thank goodness we had remembered Debbie's mini-fan, and we used it. Finally they began to let people into the theater. We headed for a section, and Kathy appeared right behind us. We enjoyed the show, just wondered why in the world they didn't close this theater up and turn on the A/C!

After the show, we headed over to KS for our FPs. We zipped past a long line and still had a large group of people ahead of us. A party of 35, actually, but they were waiting for a truck of their own so we were sent ahead. We got on the back seat, so now I know why they tell you to hold on to your things!! That is the bounciest seat in town--just call me Tigger!! Most of the animals were as hot as us so we didn't see much action, but we enjoyed the ride.

After KS, we took some photos of the Tree, and got in line for ITTBAB. The line was about 20 minutes, and the show was fun as usual. I love seeing the 'uninitiated' react to the surprises in the show!!

AK was full of hot, sweaty people by now, so we decided to stagger out. On the way out I stopped to look for a cute keychain I had seen last month, but no luck. This stop, unfortunately, caused us to wave goodbye to our bus instead of be on it, so we had our only wait-AT ALL-for transportation this trip. And it was a wait--at least 30 minutes!! We did have a bench under cover, though, so we didn't suffer too much. Finally a bus came for us, and after stops at BB and the Contemporary, we were back on our bikes heading back to Minnie.

We had a lunch of hamburgers (grilled yesterday) and all the fixings, and then cleaned up at the comfort station. We had planned on a nap, but were so refreshed by showers and lunch that we decided to head straight to MGM. We rode our bikes to the bus stop, because 1900 is quite a walk from the bus stop and I had a couple of blisters on my feet. The bus was there when we got to the bus stop, so we quickly leaned our bikes against trees, covered them with ponchos, and got on.

When we got to MGM Kathy ran over to get FPs for TT while Debbie and I went to the Bear area to shop. I had missed getting the Bear Sing-Along on the past several trips (for various reasons) and I was determined to get it this time--and I did and she loves it (she--19-month-old rugrat of the house). We met back up and headed over to the Indy show--another first for Debbie. I like the changes they have made--it seems more like they are actually filming a movie. When Indy was over it was time for TT. Debbie and I rode it--Kathy HATES it-- and I got the seat-belt seat!! I love that ride! Then we did the GMR--only 5 minute wait--and decided to do something new for all of us, that Drew Carey sound show. This is really a lame show--cool and dark but no fun. Then we headed over to see if there were any FPs left for Millionaire--and they were rushing people right in! We walked in and they started the show!! I don't know how people score well on this, barely in the top ten is the best any of us could do. If there is a secret to this please let me know!

It had started raining, so we decided to head down Sunset Blvd. looking for food. Debbie had mentioned RRC a couple of times, but I don't do coasters and Kathy had never ridden it (she only rode Space Mountain once--last year) but Kathy mentioned that since Debbie had ridden TT with me she could try RRC with Debbie. Debbie grabbed Kathy's arm and they were off like rockets!! As they disappeared into the distance I yelled that I'd wait.....and wait I did. The FPs were gone when they got there so they hopped in a not too long line. Unfortunately, then the country of Brazil arrived and got in the FP line so they ended up waiting 50 minutes. Kathy survived the ride ( and is proud to say she did it) and we got some food. Debbie and I split a turkey leg and a pretzel, and Kathy got a pizza. Then we shopped our way back to the bus stop. Only a couple of minute wait for a bus to TTC, and there was a FW bus waiting when we got there. A couple of other people got on, and we rode long enough to let everyone else off. Our bikes were waiting so we rode back to Minnie and fell in bed!

Tomorrow--More Rain at MK

ride......and by the way......thanks a million for the great report.....

Hi barbara,

I am enjoying reading your report but
don't leave us hanging. Where is the rest of
the report?

I know what you mean about the heat in Animal Kingdom and that tall fan that shoots out breeze but you can't reach it! We went to AK in August of 1998 and because of the heat, didn't go back again this past April. However, my sister has been to AK in December and said she couldn't believe how she enjoyed it compared to those hot August days we shared there. Why do you think it feels so hot there? For some reason, the Magic Kingdom doesn't seem so bad. Thanks, Carolyn
