I just saw the official announcement on FB and don't recall having seen it posted here.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

What a shame. Personally, I think it's one of DVC's best kept secrets, no pun intended. Proud to own there.

What a shame?

Pls elaborate.

I just think it's a shame that one more resort available for DVC, a gem I might add, is no longer available generally speaking (from DVC direct).

AKV is one of the largest DVCs and I hope they decide to expand it again. I've got a feeling they will.

When Disney Vacation Development announces that a resort is "sold out", what it really means is that DVD is no longer actively marketing the resort. Just last week DVD announced new incentives for Aulani, including developer points for certain purchases (see this article on DVCNews.com). Noticeably absent in that announcement was any mention of AKV, which implied to me that DVD was no longer actively marketing that resort.

DVD will continue to sell points for a "sold out" as long as it has some in its inventory. As of January 14, 2014, my records show that DVD has about 278,000 AKV points it can still sell to the general public. I also show that DVD has sold over 31,000 AKV points so far this month.

Gotcha Wilson. We really like the place too. I'd be surprised if they expand it further though. Too much other real estate closer to the parks still available.

Epcot monorail beam, anyone? :)

I was told that if a resort is sold out you can still purchase extra points by DVC exercising the ROFR on resales. Not sure if that is true or not.

Agreed, it is a really nice resort. I would like to see DVC build some type of direct transportation from AKV to AKL. All the other DVC resorts have that extra transportation, either monorail or boat. Maybe a walking trail? Ski lift type of thing?

DVC has a history of announcing sell out in advance in part to seemingly generate interest, just like they do with price increases.

I put AKL in the same category as SSR. A large resort that is easy to get into at 7 months. The smart buy to me is the smaller resorts that are hard to get into, they will hold their value longer and will be easier to sell if one needs to. At least SSR has an advantage of the second lowest dues in the club. AKL has the attraction of the animals nice theming. AKL seemed to take forever to sell as well.

DVC maintains waiting lists for all "Sold Out" resorts. When they get points from ROFR or Foreclosures, they make them available for purchase to those on the waiting lists. You would just need to let your guide know about your interest in purchasing at a "Sold Out" resort.

I agree...One of the best kept secrets right along with OKW.:thumbsup2

AK is large and easy to get at 7months but I wonder if that will gradually get more difficult if it is sold out.

I'm not a fan as I just don't like the dark interiors but that is the joy of DVC, there is something for everyones taste.

I think that it's a fabulous place and I love owning there. Unfortunately, sold out probably means that the secret has given up the ghost.

Proud to own there.

and well you should be :thumbsup2

while we don't own there, it really is a stunning resort with amazing CMs, eateries, decor, and an ambiance unlike anywhere else in WDW.

What I like about being a DVC member is all the resorts have something special to offer.

We bought in at Jambo in 2007. Given it's taken another 7 years to sell out, I can't see DVD adding on there anytime soon. While it's a fabulous resort, DVD seems to be concentrating on building closer to the action (VGF, Poly). Another Epcot resort would be be great, or a second DL resort.

We own at BCV and intend to add on at AKV at some point (saving to pay cash). We are happy buying resale as it saves a ton of money. We stayed once in a one bedroom in Jambo, savannah view and loved it! The theming is amazing! Lobby and pool was beautiful! Animals were awesome! Have not tried Kidani yet...it looks so huge.
