THought I'd chime in! We spent 5 wonderful days at Kidani at the end of summer -- so think hot, muggy, blah and there was no animal smell that I can recall!
Just wanted to add that we also had no issues with smells. We just returned from AKL and were in a savannah view room on the lobby level and never noticed any "animal odors" . I think AKL is a great choice - we were very happy there!
We've stayed on Jambo 3rd floor and Kidani 2nd floor (the lowest level for guest rooms) and never smelled the animals from our balcony or any of the viewing areas. We spent quite a bit of time on our balconies during both trips and I'm pretty sensitive to smells so if there had been an odor, I would have noticed. They clean the savannahs at least every morning, if not more often.
We have stayed at AKL, and the Villas at both Kidani and Jambo House and have never noticed any bad animal smells inside the resort or outside. Our favorite WDW resort!!
I think the animals at AKL are house broken. (ok, I know, bad joke).
We have never stayed there but the times we have visited the resort to eat or just look at the property I didn't smell anything other than Boma's or Jiko's.
We stayed at AKV in May (very wet, hot, and humid) and in October (during a crazy hot heat wave!!!) and never smelled anything bad. We were on the second floor, which is the first floor with rooms, so we were really close to the animals.
We did, however, love the smell in the elevator from the parking garage to our floor. That smell was wonderful!
