Animal Kingdom Lodge Partial closer till Sept. 1

UPDATE UPDATE!! As you all know I've been going nuts calling a million times and getting nowhere and everyone telling me something different. Well, I just called again thinking I will be more firm this time, and the CM was total opposite. She was sweet as pie and put me through to guest services special number. I simply asked if we could be moved and she said, "absolutely, as long as there are rooms available." She asked me which hotel we would like to stay at. Of course, I said GF!!! She said, "I'll check." Sure enough, we were moved to the GF with no increase in our $$. I'm so excited. Everything happens for a reason. Keep calling folks and good luck! I didn't want to take a chance. If I see one dump truck, I'd get mad. I'm quite neurotic that way. This is the only way I could afford the GF - free dining too! I'm sick. I'm happy sick. Wait a minute, who sprinkled me with pixie dust when I wasn't looking?

What are your dates??????

8/24-9/4. She looked up my ressie number and then said we could move if we wanted. By the way, I had a standard view room at AKL.

UPDATE - I just called Disney and although she said she couldn't do anything about my reservation because I am booked through a TA, she said had I not booked through a TA, she would have moved me, no problem. She told me to call my TA in the morning and ask them to call Disney and move me at no extra cost to me. Now all I have to do is be firm with my TA:idea:

I called and was sent directly to a different person who "handles this issue." She said that they are only moving those who are booked before 9/1 (our check-in is 9/14). We too have a standard room. Should I have been more firm and asked to be moved? I may call back and ask because this is our honeymoon, and my DH's first stay at Disney, and I don't want it to be ruined with construction and the ensuing problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To anyone who is staying at the AKL after 9/1.....

I called Guest Services to see if we could be moved to a different resort because of construction. CM said that since our check-in date is later than 9/1, we would have to pay the difference if we moved. Otherwise, if our check-in date was before 9/1, we would not have to pay the difference. I didn't happen to ask if we could be moved to a resort for the same rate (i.e., WL in a standard king bed room, which is the same as an AKL standard) and still keep our free dining. If anyone else has had success with this, please let me know. I really don't want to stay at AKL if there is going to be construction, and neither does my DH, but we want to keep the rate we had AKL and also our free dining.

Our ressies are for October 7-13th at AKL. Does anyone know if the construction will still be an issue then?

I'm sure as the date gets closer to 9/1 and things are not completed (if they aren't) I'm sure they will make additional moves. I'm sure that someone made the decision for a 9/1 cutoff. After Labor Day, I'm sure that things drop off too since school has started.

Hang in there. No question though, I'd be freaked out.:scared1: I'm way too Type A not to be.

Good luck too.

Yes...that's talk about honeymoons. WOW. To be at Disney. WOW.
My honeymoon...we were married on Friday, DH had no time off as he had just started a new job...only 6 months...no vacation built up...so...we drove a Ryder truck from Michigan where we once lived to Iowa on Sunday because he had to work on Monday. I-80 ain't pretty.:rotfl: Our car was stolen a week later.:scared1: How can one live north of Detroit and never even know someone who had their car stolen and then have it stolen in Iowa??:confused3

Enjoy!! It will be Magic. AKL or no AKL...Disney will be wonderful.

Hey now, don't be rapping on Detroit. LOL Where is a cornfield emote when you need one!!

I was reading this thread thanks to a friend of mine since we are to meet in WDW mid July. I was staying in a savannah room and she showed me this so I could stay ahead of the curve on the relocation and get the best choice of room. Well needless to say after talking to my TA at AAA she was offered a 1 bedroom villa at SSA as an even up trade. I told her no way as my daughter needed her own bed and to call them back and twist some arm for a two bedroom villa. When she called me back I was informed that the two bedroom villa was out but they would refund almost half my money if i accepted the 1 bedroom.

Well you can guess who will be sleeping on the pull out. The guy saving the better part of 2 grand, while the 9 year old gets the king size. I guess i could afford to buy a real nice blow up mattress to put on top of it now though.

Anyone got any clue as to how comfortable those pull outs are?

Oh BTW, My TA was informed that it is certain savannah view rooms that are affected and not the whole place as I have read earlier

Summer-Caitlyn......BE FIRM!!!!! :)

THis is YOUR honeymoon.....you are coming from across the pond my goodness!!! If you want GF.....state that!!!! I am pulling for you and will wait to here the outcome!
Wishing you pixie dust :)

Is it possible for you to go to your TA's office and be there when she makes the call. That way you know for sure what is said and what is offered and will be there to make your decisions.

DaffyPluto,

I have heard that they are very comfortable, new type that does not have bars that dig in. I would probably still take an airbed just in case. With the money you are saving you will be able to book many extras if you want to.

I made the call last evening, and spoke to a very "pleasant" CM who told me that there was "nothing available" at any of the other deluxe resorts for us to switch to! Yea, right.... I explained to him that this trip is my son's and nephews graduation trip, and that we have people in the group with severe asthma who cannot be around any kind of construction dust or chemical smells, or we'd be spending our vacation in the ER instead of MK! He told me, and I quote, "you can't believe everything you read on those boards" and he snickered! Well, I told him that if it hadn't been for "those boards", I'd have missed a whole lot of great deals over the years, including this years free DDP! He was not amused. So although he was pleasant, NOT helpful and I will be calling again today. Now I should say that we are not scheduled for check in until 9/14, and that we have pool view rooms booked, which I seem to keep reading will not be affected, but I am still concerned about the health implications if there is any construction dirt. Opinions? Ideas? Thoughts?

I called my TA as we are checking in on the 14th as well with Savannah view and she did confirm with Disney that there was construction going on in the main lodge and the only animals being moved were small birds that are sensitive to the construction. I am so nervous now and pushed the envelope to move to another resort at no extra cost and they told her that they are not accomadating guests that check in after Sept. 1st. I just have to sit and wait to find out if I will have to move. I have the same question...has anyone been accomdated with resort change after Sept. 1st?

Ok...so I'm a little worried now and starting to freak out  We don't check into AKL until 8/25 but we haven't heard ANYTHING! Anyone else out there who is staying at AKL from 8/25 to 9/2? We have a savannah room currently booked...I'm thinking of calling. Think we could get BW? My DH loves that place...I'm so worried, confused, anxious...should I wait for the call?!?!

MUDisneyCouple, based on what's going on with some other posters, it might be better to call if you haven't heard from them soon. Word is, they are calling chronologically, based on when your stay begins...maybe they just haven't gotten up to your week yet.

I agree with GrannyMinnie "CALL" - If your check in date is before September 1st you are entitled to move so be proactive and call. this will ensure that you get a resort that you are happy with :) before they fill up.

Staying at AKL in 3 weeks..haven't heard anything. Should I be worried...probably.

I have NOT bothered to read this thread, so the information below may be a repeat....

AllEarsNet.com has a blog by someone at the VAK now... She indicated she inquired of AKL management (who greeted her as the first VAK guest) about the "closure" According to them it is NOT closed, just additional rooms have been taken out of use. (And she did check in on 7/1)
