Animal Kingdom Lodge - Kidani & Jambo - Room # Recommendations

We are staying @ Animal Kingdom Lodge both Jambo and Kidani in March.

I am looking for room recommendations from those of you who have stayed, savanna views, soft goods refurbishment complete & close to pool. I like to request specific rooms 1 week prior to arrival. At Jambo we would like to be on the Zebra Trail and at Kidani a savannah view seeing the giraffes.

We are staying in a studio for 1 night at Jambo & a 1 bedroom villa the remaining 6 nights.

It's better to ask for what you want rather than a specific room number. What if the room you request isn't available? How is the room assigner supposed to know what a suitable substitute would be?

Especially at a DVC resort. DVC resorts typically work at 95% occupancy or higher, and when you request a specific room you're assuming it will turn over that day, and/or the assignor is spending thought time on "maybe they want something near there," which is generally not the case.

I agree with other posters... if you request a specific room, and it isn't available, the cast may not know what to do with your request. Better, request what you want. "Savannah view," "Something close to the pool," etc. This will expand the likelihood of your requests being accommodated!

Take a look at Touring Plans. They aren't completely accurate, but they can help you decide on which rooms will be what you are looking for. They will automatically send a room request in for you, if you opt for that.

We have found it useful when trying to determine room requests that make sense for us. We have usually been fortunate to get something similar to our requests, if not the exact room that we were hoping for.

We used Touring Plans Room Request for our recent trip to AKL. We requested the same room # as our first trip - for sentimental reasons. However, we also indicated why that room was perfect on our first trip - quiet, overlooking a watering hole, plenty of birds at all hours (our daughter likes birds), far from the elevators, etc. We did not receive our actual requested room #, but they did assign a room with all of the other preferences and we were 100% pleased with this room. In fact, we liked it better because the nearest elevator went straight down to the pool and restaurants. We were on the other side of Jambo the first time, so we always went to the lobby first and then took the elevator close to Zawadi whenever we wanted to swim, eat, refill our mugs. Taking one elevator this time was wonderful! I would not hesitate to just list what's important to you as far as view, location, etc. rather than request a specific room number. It seems the booking staff does try to make the guests happy if they know exactly what you would like and Touring Plans makes such a request easy to make.
