Hello,
My family is taking a trip in October, and will be staying at the WL, although the first day we will be going to the Animal Kingdom. We were thinking of going to visit the AKL after we leave the park at 5:00, just to check out the animal scene.

My question, is it worth going to see the animals? Are they actually visible at that time of day or not? I really don't want to drag my family over there if it's not worth it.

Again, I'm just looking for feeback with regard to animal sightings during that time of day. I know there are other reasons to see the lodge, decor, exploring, etc., but I'm just looking to know about the animals.

Thanks,
Icarus

yes you got to go see it...itsfantastic..we go every trip just go to the lower level..and out to the viewing area...there are always some animals out..keep your camera ready..you got to go through the gift shop...wow lots of neat stuff...

its definatley worth going. you will see the animals from the viewing area at the back of the lodge and also from the windows/balconies along the corridors to the rooms.

If you are going when it will be dark they usually have night viewing stations where you can use night vision glasses to see the animals :goodvibes

I guess I'm assuming that the animals are ready to go to sleep by early evening.

They are most certainly viewable at that time! There are viewing verandas all across the hotel. We just returned from a stay there and the only time we didn't see animals was at midnight or later. We awoke at 7am to animals and came back in the afternoon around 5 and there were animals. Have a wonderful time. :)

The animals are always active at any time of the day and night; someone is always out and about :) If you visit and stay until 9pm or 10pm or so, they have nightviewing of the animals. It is to the left of the pool area. They have 2 or 3 high tech, military quality night vision goggles and you can view the animals that way. Very cool!!!

I've heard they actually roatate the animals. Like the ones in the evenings aren't the same you see in the mornings or something like that. But there are always animals out, unless there is bad weather coming. The only time I didn't see animals when we stayed there was when there was a bad thunders torm. But I think they rotate the animals. Don't quote me on that though!:thumbsup2

We just stayed at AKL in May. Everyday around 9am, 5pm & 9pm we saw the animals being fed. They do this to help keep the animals visible and close to the hotel at all hours. Around 11am everyday, they are brought inside the animal enclosures so that the savannahs can be cleaned.

We were there during marathon weekend last year so we were in our room at odd times and we found that we saw more animals in the mid-afternoon than any other time. We stayed 7 nights and it seemed like only 1 savannah per night had animals out. Even with the night vision goggles we didn't see animals at night. The CM said that it just varied as to which animals were out and if they stayed anywhere visible. The late afternoon feeding time between 4 and 5 we saw tons and tons of animals on each savannah.

If you go around 5 you should be able to see animals from just about any of the viewing areas. At any time you can go see the flamingo area near the pool as well.

My family and I stayed at the AKL this past December. We would go out in the evening after dark and there were guides with night vision binoculars. That was so neat. Also by the pool we could stand there and watch lots of giraffes. It is a wonderful scene. I can't wait to go back there someday !
