When people say whether they saw a lot of animal or not on the safari - how many animals are there possibly to see anyway? Giraffe, elephants, tigers???

On the safari, you see giraffes (usually 2 or 3), rhinos - I think two different kinds are possible, crocodiles, hippos, various birds, some little ones called Tommys, Ostriches, lions, cheetah, monkeys, bongos, zebras, elephants and a few other kinds of things I can't remember the names of. Then there is also the oasis area which has lots of birds and small animals, and there is a walking trail out of the safari ride which has numerous animals including gorillas. There is also the Maharajah Jungle Trek which has tigers and other larger animals. There are also numerous other areas which have animals as well other than the safari and trails.

I was there a few weeks ago, on a Wednesday afternoon. We saw hippos, rhinos, crocodiles, cheetah, lions, several different types of antelope, giraffes, elephants, gazelle, two types of climbing monkey, warthog, flamingo, a buffalo-type creature, and zebra.

On the exploration trails, we also saw quite a few gorillas, as well as tigers and more antelope and gazelles.

My 3 year old son is an animal fanatic and loved our recent visit to Animal Kingdom. We went on the safari three times and saw lots of animals - well worth the trip. In addition to the ones already posted, we saw okapis (look like part zebra, part antelope), kudu, and mandrills. At least four elephants, as well as the male and female lions. LOTS of hippos. I think we saw the most on a rainy day. You can also see animals up close on the Majaraja Jungle Trek and Panjani Forest Trail. We saw a tiger just on the other side of the glass in Majaraja and had very good gorilla viewing in Panjani.

It depends on when you go. Later in the afternoon, you may see less animals. You will see numerous animals but necessarily the "big" ones that we are all familiar with. In the morning, we saw lions but in the afternoon they were nowhere to be found. Sometimes giraffes roam around and sometimes they are barely visible behind bushes. The car in front of you can have animals right next to them and by the time you drive by, they would have wandered off. Keep in mind that the vehicals cannpt stop to wait for the animals, they have to keep moving.
None the less, it is a fun attraction and worth the time experiencing.

We went last June, rode around 10:00a.m. and saw elephants, hippos, and giraffes. I was disappointed because as soon as we would spot an animal, our driver would speed off, as if we were trying to get away from the animals. We saw more animals on the jungle trek.

Years ago, we bought my son a Field Guide book at one of the stores at the Animal Kingdom. This book identified all the Animals you might encounter at Animal Kingdom. It was a really nice book and we bring it back with us when we go to AK.
