Animal kingdom-full day?

Depends what all you are planning and when you are going. If it's a busy time of year and the lines are long, you might need the whole day for everything, including all the rides, trails, shows, characters, affection section, and all that. If you are just hitting the shows and a couple of rides for the little ones, 5 hours is probably enough.
Just a word of caution, my kids were 3 and 7 when we saw "It's Tough to be a Bug," and they HATED it. It's dark and a little scary in there. If you are short on time or if they are easily spooked, I'd skip it.
Festival of the Lion King is awesome! Safari is always cool. We all enjoyed the Flights of Wonder bird show, especially my little one, she wanted to go back again the next day. Nemo was good, very much like the movie but on stage. If the adults aren't riding the headliners, your only rides will probably be Kilo Safari and TriceraTop Spin and maybe the Wildlife Train. I'm sure they will want to explore the Boneyard too. Camp Mickie/Minnie is great for seeing the characters! We've actually never made it to Camp M/M, we do a lot of character meals, so we don't usually visit them during park time, but I've seen other peoples' pictures. We've never done the Wildlife Train or the Affection/Conservation Section/Stations, the Discovery Club, Oasis Exhibits, or the trails. There's just always something else we'd rather do on our Disney-time, I'm sure we are missing out, but you just can't see and do it all on every trip!
Hope that helps, have fun!

we take 1 1/2 for AK but then we love going to zoos
the first day we leave after the parade then go to another park (HS for fantasmic) which works for us then go another morning because we love it

we don't do shows since my boys won't sit for them but alot of people really love them too

I went with my 4 yo triplets last fall and we didn't get to do everything they wanted to do in 1 day with no rest. This next trip we are planning 1.5 days there with no break

My kids rave about the Lion King festival to everyone. make sure to see it with the kids. they will LOVE it.

I have a 2 and 4 year old. Do you think animal kingdom will take a full day?
With our kids of similar age, we go there in the morning, do a couple of attractions, eat lunch, then head home for naps. We walk through about half the park to do it.

Animal Kingdom is a beautiful park. At our pace, it would probably take 3 similar scheduled days to do everything.

It could depends on the group. If they are animal lovers I think you could spend forever.

Maybe a bit of exageration but there are many and it can keep some very occupied in addition to the rides.

Do your kids love animals? If they do, then I think it can definitely take a day. Some kids like to stand and watch the animals and wouldn't move....also there are many nice shows there that we love! We are animal lovers :)

I was there last trip with an almost 3 year old and a 15 month old. We were there from rope-drop to close and didn't do it all. Didn't ride Everest, didn't see the parade, didn't see Flights of Wonder, didn't do Camp Minnie-Mickey, didn't go to Affection Section/Planet Watch, didn't see Tough to be a Bug. We had lunch at Rainforest Cafe which took FOREVER, never again. But, we still would have had to eat and wouldn't have had enough time to do it all.

We usually do the AK in 2 half days. I have yet to see the parade.

We do not do everything, just spend time doing things DD3 likes to do. It is kind of a "break from the parks" day. If she wants to spend 1 hr brushing the goats or ride the little dino ride 6x we do it. We always see the Lion King Show.

If you decide to spend the day, Tusker House is a nice buffet very similar to the popular Boma that will provide a cool relaxing lunch.

The train is great fun and the trails are incredible, you are up close with a lot of cool animals!
I think it is hard to see and do it all in a full day at AK no matter the age of your kids. They will love it!
Also, shows take time. You have to get there early, wait, see the show, and get out of the stadium. All of the shows there are super:thumbsup2

Yes. We've always stayed open to close even when the kids were toddlers. If you need a break and don't want to return to your hotel just jump on the train and go to the Conservation Center. They have an a/c building that is never crowded. You can sit in a private room and listen to white noise (the sound of rainforest creatures). They usually have a character or two to interact with there as well. Once outside again, they have plenty of goats to pet. My kids always love this little break away from the hustle of the park.

Animal Kingdom is a great place to visit. Most of the park is in the shade, which is a plus in the humid Orlando weather. You might need the whole day for everything if you want to experience everything in the park. If you are just hitting the shows and a couple of rides for your kids, half a day is enough.

We went to AK 2 days on our last trip and didn't come even close to doing everything with our 4 and 1 year old. We met pretty much all the characters, I think, which was our main priority. We went to Conservation Station, rode the safari, did one of the trails, went to the Festival of the Lion King, went on Triceratop Spin MANY times, and did It's Tough to be a Bug. Was afraid our kids would be scared, but they loved it (but we weren't by Hopper), and saw the parade once. Did one sit down meal at Yak and Yeti. This was during December, and the cold kept us from staying from opening until close, but we did spend most of both days there.
