Animal Kingdom food places for my food-allergy son

My son has multiple food allergies, so feeding him well is a challenge when we're away from home. I'm looking at the menus here on the DIS site to see what I can feed him when we are at Animal Kingdom next month.

(We were at MK last summer, and we didn't have a big problem because we did TS where there was plenty for him to eat at the buffet. Plus, when I made the ADR's, I notified them of his food allergies, and we were privileged to have the chef give us a personalized tour of the buffet tables. It brought me to tears that they were as concerned for him as I was.)

A piece of plain grilled chicken is a treat for him, and something that won't send him to the ER. We are not doing any TS at AK. I see that some CS places have ceaser salads or sandwiches with grilled chicken. Would CS places be willing to just slap a plain piece of grilled chicken on a plate for him? Do any of these places use any kind of marinade or seasoning when they cook it?

(I know I can call WDW, but I like the wealth of info here on this board first...)

Also, I see there's a McDonalds (under the name of Restaurantosaurus). Do they have a complete McD's menu, including hamburgers? My son will eat 4 of those (without the buns) and call it a meal. I only see cheeseburgers and veggie burgers on the menu here on the DIS.

Thanks!

I don't have specific answers to your questions but Tusker HOuse is now a buffet. It may have some options for you.

I went this year with a nephew that requires a glutten free diet and is also diabetic. At each counter service, we asked for a manager. They were very helpful and each time prepared his meal. There is a concern with cross contamination and they were very aware of that. They were able to offer him many choices and were wonderful to work with. We then just ordered everyones food and paid for his at the same time. They would bring his food directly to our table. We ate counter service at every park and got great service at each one. I was very impressed by their knowledge and willingness to make a meal that he would enjoy. The charge was usually a child meal.

My DGD is allergic to eggs and to dairy. She was accommodated at CS for the most part. They were happy to help. My DD found a lot of help on the DISabilities forum here. Maybe ask over there for more assistance.

Contact Brenda Bennett (brenda.bennett@disney.com) with your son's allergy info. She'll email you a list of ingredients for menu items at the CS restaurants. I did this before our last trip and it really helped make the trip go smoother.

Not personal experience, but from what I have read on the DIS, the Boma chefs are very accommodating about diet requirements. I think if you contacted them beforehand they would be able to take care of your child's needs.

The CS places can't really accomodate making things to order (except at the resorts). Most of the grilled chicken is marinated (I think it is made that way off site) except the kids grilled chicken some places was plain--you just have to read ingredient books on site. At the McD's at WDW they don't serve regular McD's burgers they are the same big burgers as all the CS places (which are all beef). They can make them without cheese but if cross contamination is an issue for you then you are better off eating something else. If you do want something without a bun or adapted in a simple way I suggest asking for a manager up front. It took about 6 tries at Cosmic Rays for me to get a plain burger that had not been on a bun first and my burger still had sesame seeds on it anyway....

Also check on the DISabilities board- there have been discussions there about food allergies and restaurants at WDW too.

Check the disABILITIES FAQ by either going to the disABILITIES Forum or clicking on the link in my signature. We have a lot of dietary information in the FAQ.

Boma absolutely helps people out with food allergies. The chef himself comes out and takes you through the line and tells you what you can eat.
