Animal Kingdom a major Flop!

We like AK better than HS ... love Kali River Rapids specially on a hot day; we go on it back to back to back as many has 5-6x.

Maybe you need to be more of a "zoo person" to appreciate it. We love the zoo so we are really into AK. My DS8 especially loved it!! I think it's the most beautiful of the parks.
We love zoos and have been trying to visit as many as we can but AK is still far from my favorite. But it's an OK park and we visit during each trip so I'm not like the OP!

I think the lyon king show is somethting not to be missed and I love the few rides they do have but this park is all about the animals it is like a safari and going to places I could never go like taking a trip to africa to the safari to see wild animals in there own natural habitat. (sorry cant spell) AK is also about helping to save the animals that are endangered.

It could not be more Disney than that disney is about making the world a better place.

I also don't care much for AK. Out of our two summer trips we only visited it during one, and only stayed for 1.5 hours to ride EE a few times.

Our first trip here in 1998 we did this park in half a day. We didn't want to waste a day at disney on a zoo. Then I came home and saw the Travel Channel special. I was surprised how much we missed and what animals we could see there that we wouldn't see in our zoo. We went back in 2005 and this quickly became one of my faves. We still only spend 1 day there but I look forward to it. I love the animals and the shows. I love the parade. I love the rides. Its a work in progress as is most of Disney. They always add something new somewhere and I am sure you will see this park grow and grow in the coming years.

DHS is the park that needs help. The park has decreased in attractions over the years.

So if I would have said that AK was just OK, though needed a little work, do you think I would have gotten the responses I got with this one? There's no doubt that Disney watches these boards and with the responses that I completely expected, Disney also sees the passion that its loyal fans have for the park. I hope that Disney also sees and knows that its work is not nearly done and much more needs to be done to make the park the quality that we all know and expect from Disney.

I don't love the AK because I think everything Disney does is perfect if that's what you're insinuating, far from it.

I think it exceeds the Disney standard, moreso than the MK. Now that park I could nitpick to pieces about why it is slowly failing to meet expectations.

It's also my least favorite park. I'm an AP holder and live near by; go all the time but never to AK anymore.

BUT, I wouldn't call it a flop; it's just not my thing. There's a difference.

The biggest disappointment with AK is the broken Yeti. I'm not going back till it's fixed.

Did I mention that it's the only park that truly feels hotter than Hades during the summer.

Actually year after year I have grown to love the AK more and more. I believe and like the fact that AK seems hotter than other parks-I feel it adds to the atmosphere of being in a jungle environment. The train ride to Rafikis planet reminds of those trains in Africa (Cry the beloved Country). The themeing in this park is awesome. :thumbsup2

p.s This is the kind of thread I like once in while. With everyone crying "troll " lately every time someone says something controversial, it's good people can discuss/debate things like this every now and then instead of another silly topic like "what's the best day to take my 6yr old to DHS if its raining?" :confused3

I've read this entire thread and I while I think that OP is entitled to his rather harsh opinion that won't change how my family feels about AK. We love it for what it is and if Disney continues to bring new attractions there (which I'm sure they'll do) it will only encourage my family to continue to return year after year.

However, I must say OP you sound like you more like a bitter tourist who wants a refund from Disney rather than someone just giving their opinion. Don't try the suit of bitterness on, it just clashes with your shoes.

I think you are missing the boat on Dinosaur and Kali River Rapids. My DD (5) makes us ride Kali about 3 times every trip and we never get tired of that experience. Dinosaur is probably the most intense ride Disney has to offer. Animal Kingdom just has a lot of E ticket rides and more viewing opportunties than the other 2 parks.

The carnival area seems weird and out of place.

WOW sorry you feel that way,we love AK. My wife LOVE's dinosaur the ride. Now the carnival rides, and PW we hate,we think thats a waste of space. Need a new attraction there.

So if I would have said that AK was just OK, though needed a little work, do you think I would have gotten the responses I got with this one? There's no doubt that Disney watches these boards and with the responses that I completely expected, Disney also sees the passion that its loyal fans have for the park. The responses would have likely been milder but people still would have argued. You are talking to a place with devoted Disney fans and yes, some do think that Disney can do no wrong. Not all but some. But that's OK because that works for them.

I don't agree..I love AK. I think if any park needs help, it's DHS..I still like it, but it's my least favorite out of the 4.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess.:)

Animal Kingdom has PHENOMENAL theming. Incredible theming. AK is a park that you need to stop and smell the roses all the time - check out every detail. They left no stone unturned when putting the design together.

In fact, I think Asia in general is the best themed area of any area in all of Walt Disney World. Have you checked out the details of on the crumbled temple walls all throughout the Maharajah Jungle Trek? The queue design of both Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest are second to none in the whole of Disney World - they are ridiculously realistic. Yak and Yeti is amazingly themed. Basically, everything about Asia is top notch.

Africa is right behind it. The Safari is amazing - what a job they did putting that plains together and how it totally engrosses you in the time and place. It's wonderful. And Harambe, while not quite as engrossing as Anandapur, is still amazing.

If you spend any time exploring the trails around the Tree Of Life, it's hard not to be blown away by its quality and scale.

Granted, Dino Rama is ugly. However, for what it's SUPPOSED to be, it is very well themed. It's just ugly - but that's what they were going for. I think it should be destroyed and replaced, but I give it credit for taking aim at a theme and doing it well, even if it's an eyesore.

And this isn't even mentioning the handful of great thrill rides (Everest, Dinosaur, Kali) and other headliners (Safari, Tough To Be A Bug, Lion King, Nemo, walking trails, conservation station).

So if you're not into taking it slow and loving the details, AK may not be the park for you. But it does have a LOT of great attractions and shows and even a uniquely wonderful parade.

Maybe the OP should trying using words like in my view of things instead of sounding as if he is stating a fact. Maybe since he knows so much about theme parks and what Disney should do he should put all his wisdom into building a place where people from all over the world dream about going. My family and I love AK. It may not be for everyone but I am sure by this thread that you can see plenty of people do enjoy it.
I do not care for Seaworld but I would not say that it is a waste of time because plenty of people think otherwise. Go where you enjoy most and have a great time.:goodvibes

All Soaked Up? Wow, I never thought about it that way. May be the next time we go to WDW, every morning before we go to the parks, I'll just take my shower with my clothes on and just enjoy the feeling of walking around all day all soaked up.

It seems as if you wanted to start a post just to create controversy and then keep adding posts to add fuel to the fire. Too bad, you can't get many people to agree with you.

I used to rate Animal Kingdom as my least favorite park, but after gooing back severall times, it is now one of my favorites. Flights of Wonder is a great attraction that gets overlooked, and just walking around the park and being able to enjoy the atmosphere is worth the trip to me.

Animal Kingdom needs some major help. There are only 5 attractions that have general appeal to everyone. Expedition Everest, It’s Tough to be a Bug, Kilimanjaro Safari, The Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo the Musical. 2 of its major attractions: Dinosaur and Kali River Rapids are not good at all. Dinosaur is okay the first time you ride it, though gets old, very old after that. Kili River Rapids is horrible. Very few like to get completely drenched on a ride. Even without the drenching, it’s just not that good of a ride. The County Fair Area – Triceratops spin etc. are the most un-Disney like attractions in all of WDW. Disney did nothing, but add new attractions without spending money. Disney needs to spend some major bucks on this park not only adding, but re-imagineering a large number of the existing attractions.

That's ALL your opinion and your entitled...thousands....upon thousands..even some that don't visit the Dis board :scared1: like it or love it.....WE love it

100% agree with this post about the OP:thumbsup2

I wonder how many of these slow down and enjoy the beauty people are locals (200 mile radius), annual pass holders, or multi time per year travelers?

Sorry you don't care for Animal Kingdom, OP, but I just wanted to say that I've only been once as an adult, am not sure if or when I'll get to return, and I absolutely LOVED AK. So did my husband; we were a young couple on our honeymoon, no kids. We kept remarking to each other all day how beautiful and atmospheric it was. I love looking back on the pictures from that park, especially those with Everest in the background-- incredible!

Now I love thrill rides and attractions, so don't get me wrong. But I enjoy other things too, and looking at the animals and the amazing theme at AK is definitely one of them. I agree with the many people who have said that you will enjoy it more if you don't approach it with an attractions-or-die mentality. We stayed away from the dino area, I admit, but I wouldn't change anything else in the park. I think I miss it most of all, to be honest.
