Animal Kingdom a major Flop!

Love AK! When we went to WDW for the first time, we just planned in one day at AK - kinda expecting to leave early too - mostly due to what is usually posted on here as it being a half day park. I understand for some people this is the case - but we stayed til closing and went back for another day and still have so much other things to do when we go back!

I have never really been a huge fan of AK and agreed with the OP. But after reading the opinions of those on this thread, I'm more eager to give it another real chance. I do love the details in the other parks and I fear that I haven't given AK enough of my time to appreciate those things.

Thanks for making me think!

AK is my least favourite park. It's difficult to navigate, the paths are narrow and it's very hot. It's nice to see the animals on the safari but it's far too rough to be comfortable. EE is fun, if you like roller-coasters but I think the rest of the rides or attractions, are not very good.

When we go in August we are not going to AK, we will spend the day at a water park instead.

I really think those people who say they think AK is their least favorite park really have not given it a chance. Unless you have honestly spent at least a whole full day there and done everything at least once plus take your time and see all the wonderful little details, and not rush, then you shouldn't give up on the park yet. Give it another chance. Obviously, the OP has not done this.

If you really have given it a chance, and you still don't like it, then that's your opinion and its ok, but you can't say you don't like it if you really have not slowed down and enjoyed the park thoroughly.

I've given it plenty of chances. I've been there several times, and it is still my least favorite park. I don't hate it or anything like that, I just like the other 3 parks better.

MK
Epcot
HWS
AK

This is the order of preference, in which I like the 4 parks.

I've done all that and it's still my least favorite park in the Orlando area. I don't consider it a flop though.

Wow. Are you just in a bad mood and want to start an argument, or are you really adamant about your opinions of the AK?

The Animal Kingdom is our family's favorite park, and I just don't understand how people don't "get it" when it comes to the AK. That used to bother me, but not anymore. Now I'm glad that some people choose to avoid the AK altogether. That makes it much less crowded for me and my family to enjoy.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:
We like the park too, though MK will always be my favorite. Its about Animals at this park and the "scenery" is beyond spectacular IMHO. Thats what is so great about Disney, something for Everyone's tastes!

Well, as I said in my post, everyone is entitled to their opinion and since you did it all and still don't like it, that's fine with me. I'm just addressing those who say they don't like it, but never actually gave it a chance....in other words, if you go to AK, only do the major attractions and rush through, you can't say you don't like it because then you have not experienced everything it has to offer so you don't actually know if you like it or not. ;)

I think Animal Kingdom is a waste of money and time. IMO Disney created a mess with this park.

Wow. It's terrible that people actually think this way about such a wonderful park.

A waste of time? A mess with the park? So many people would disagree with you.
Do you really consider riding expedition everest a waste of time? Seeing the wonderful show of Festival of the lion king a waste of time? Honestly, AK has some of the best disney has to offer.
Yes, they do need to redo dinoland and yes, they could add some more to the park, but I don't think they made a mess with it at all. There is so much there worth doing.

I agree. And it's not that I don't like AK, I just like it the least. I tend to love all themeparks.

We love AK in this family. We spend more than a day just to see everything there. The shows are great, our kids also a big fans of the parade, and the safari is the #1 attraction for us. My only gripe would be the carnival cheapness atmosphere of Dinoland.

I have to wonder sometimes if the AK walkways are really too narrow or we just have more people pushing those double-wide, hotel rooms on wheels strollers. Something to think about...;)

AK is a half day park for us. We do love the dinosaur ride though. I just wish we didnt have to watch the stupid intro over and over again.

At Ak we also like the lion king show. Everytime I see it I cry. I know...I can't help it.

I wish it had a little more to offer as well. But if not I am glad that other people and small children enjoy it.

But... but... but... Animal Kingdom DOES have more to offer!!! Slow down. Take a whole day. LOOK at the animals - all the animals. Talk to the Cast Members. Seek out secrets and hidden gems (and no, not the ones on the Maharajah Jungle Trek ;)).

I'd tell you to look for the secret path, but apparently it's been decided to let vegetation grow over it. ;) But find that baobob tree.

I remember a path back along the back walkway but I heard that it was overgrown now. I remember walking the path long ago.

My only gripe would be the carnival cheapness atmosphere of Dinoland.

When we first went to AK it had recently opened and they were still building everest. Dinoland felt like someone said "quick we need more rides!" and they bought up some cheap carnival rides and put those in. It still feels a little odd. The story someone posted previously makes sense and fits that area of the park. But I do not think that is conveyed very well and it still feels a little awkward.

In no way is AK a flop. I think the park is very interesting. There is so much detail that is in that park, that I don't think a lot of people really notice. Since we go to Disney so much, we now like to take it slow and really stop and smell the roses and AK is one of those parks that you really need to do that inorder to really appreciate it. Sure my kids love going on the rides and the rides that they only want to go on is KS, Kali, EE, and PW. We also love going to Camp Mickey's to see FOTLK, the show there never gets old....love those acrobatic monkeys :goodvibes. And of course we can spend hours on end at Rafiki's Planet Watch....we especially love watching the veterinarians take care of the sick and injured animals....that whole area is just fascinating to us.
