Has anyone else come across someone who is seems downright angry that we won the war? My husband works with a guy who is. His attitude is "big deal" that we won the war (he predicted doom and gloom..... a quagmire etc. BEFORE the war:rolleyes: ) he's totally obsessed that we find WMD now, my attitude is patience.... Saddam was Evil but not stupid. The stuff is stashed- and good. And if the coalition is so smart, what are we going to do NOW? I think he is absolutely devestated that Bush et al were right about going in, liberating the people and getting rid of Saddam Hussein. I think he hates this administration so much that he would have rather seen thousands of our soldiers slaughtered than admit the coalition got this right. Thankfully my dh doesn't have to work with him much longer- crew change coming up!

Have any of you met anyone like this??

My own husband started in with this type of attitude last weekend...like okay so where's the WMD? I basically told him to be quiet. ;) We've barely stopped major fighting and I don't think we could be in full force looking for WMD while we were dropping bombs. I believe they are there and we will find them although it may take a while. Considering he gassed many of his own people, he has to have it stashed somewhere in case he wanted it used again.

haha, no I haven't run into any like that IRL. I could only imagine how I'd react. :p

Yep, it is sad! :( And it's probably going to get worse, as the latest poll numbers show Bush's popularity is climbing (deservedly so!).

Maybe these people are just a little bit disconnected from reality?

I've not met anyone in real life that appears to feel this way athough I have seen people on tv and on the dis boards that certainly appear to have similar sentiments.

-Children jailed for years because they wouldn't join the youth movement.

-dissidents disappear

-People tortured and jailed for such things as praying too much

-Experiments done on prisioners

-Women raped and treated like animals by his sons and others in his gang

-Iraqis of differing religious sects gassed by their own government.

-Saddam and his minions live in luxury while his peopled starved.

Should we get all upset if no WMD are found? In some respects, Saddam was worse than Hitler. Did I forget anything that the "innocent" Iraqi ex- leaders did?

I'm going to put my neck on the line here and give my opinion. I am not a supporter of most Republican politicians because of their stand on a few rights that I consider very important and greatly fear losing. That said, I am very glad we liberated the Iraqi people and I hope they continue to live with the freedom that our armed forces have given them. However, I did not and do not support the way our President went about liberating Iraq. I believe facts were twisted to achieve a goal that his cabinet and he established well before 9-11. I don't think 9-11 was any type of conspiracy. It was a horrific tragedy committed by heinous people. I am concerned now about our issuing threats against Syria and have begun reading articles about that country since I know nothing of their government.

I am interested, CEDmom. What "specific" facts were twisted and where is it cited as proof? In other words, "where's the smoking gun?"

My somewhat SO (not sure what at this moment in time) pretty much thinks we are all brainwashed by the media to believe anything we are told. He has been reading online sources from Iran, Democratic Underground...... he has been totally bizarre since the start of this war. He, too, keeps claining that IF WMD are found, it will the us who planted them there.

So, yes when I have the profits from my new business, he will get his wish for me to move out. But, he must re-finance the house to get my name OFF the mortgage before I move out.

My best friend for the past 17 years is very liberal. We "got into it" at the beginning of the war. She can't quite get over the deception of Vietnam as she puts it. She is also very anti-Bush. We haven't touch on the issue of politics since the first week of the war. After our last conversation on the phone my DS told me I as a "potty mouth Pete". I am sure she does not feel we won anything. She is of the crowd that feels America is a bully and it's no wonder the world hates is. We are very opposite and actually have grown farther apart because of it. We can now mark politics off our list of discussion topics. It has good company on that list where religion already resides.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with someone who has very different political views that I do. I don't enjoy arguing for argument sake. I clearly stated that my post was my opinion. I wasn't claiming anyone said anything and I wasn't implying there was a smoking gun (I won't even go there). I'm entitled to interpret actions and statements as I choose and that doesn't make me wrong just as your doing the same doesn't make you right.

The purpose of my post was to give people a view of someone who didn't and doesn't agree with our administration's tactics but who is happy for the Iraqi people with the outcome.

I apologize. Didn't mean to cause urination problems on the board.

Yes, I have differing views but am always willing to listen to facts.

Not trying to offend anyone here, but if some of you are so against what is going on ever since Bush took office, with what has gone on since 9-11, with the war, etc., then why are you still in America? You do have that freedom to leave this country if what is going on totally rubs you the wrong way.

Okay, everyone, let's step back and take a deep breath. Emotions are high, but let's remember that we're friends even if we have different opinions. :)

Not attacking here, but simply stating that you can disagree with what a political figure does and still enjoy the country you live in. People have the freedom to leave if they don't like what the Pres. is doing just as much as they have the freedom to stay and feel what they feel. I must say that I wouldn't move just because I disagree with what one Pres. does, that sounds a bit rediculous to me. That's the cool thing about the USA, you aren't prohibited from expressing your opinions and you do have the freedom to do what you want (as long as it isn't illegal). I could guess that those who do not agree with what Pres. Bush has done, hope that in the next election they will get a political figure they can agree with on many political actions. Again, I am so not attacking here, but just giving my generic view on that :)

I completely agree with you and I apologize that I got snippy. I won't apologize for my opinion though or feel I need to provide proof in order to have it.

Why would I want to leave the US? My family is here, my friends are here, my job is here, I love this country and am proud to be a citizen. I just don't happen to agree with certain things our government is doing. I also don't agree with certain things my friends do, my family does, my employer does etc. That doesn't mean I'm going to abandon them. I generally make my feelings known at the polls and will continue to do so. However, when a forum such as this is available for me to express my opinion I will do so.

As an aside, I supported our President's decisions after 9-11 with attacking Afghanistan, going after terrorists etc. I also support our liberating Iraq. I just question the way information was presented to the public. Originally it was all about WMD and Suddam's immediate threat to our country now it's about liberating the Iraqi people. I think Suddam should have been ousted a long time ago and the people of Iraq freed. I would be behind GWB but I feel a bit lied to.

I think he hates this administration so much

That's a big part of the problem right there. A lot of the protestors are simply anti-Bush and this is their best chance so far to attack him. They are frustrated that the war is going so well and is now winding down, and they can't use the "you got us into another Vietnam" argument next November. Now they are asking why we haven't found WMD yet. It's funny that the protestors wanted to give the UN all the time in the world to find WMD, but we have to produce them yesterday. Our troops still have other things to worry about. I'm sure the WMD will come in time. Iraq is a decent sized country with plenty of area to hide things.

As for the OT, I haven't actually heard anyone say they are angry that we won, but I've seen a couple change the subject to WMD or our "occupying" Iraq when the subject comes up. I guess it's embarrassing to back the wrong horse and them have people point it out to you afterwards.

*********** and helenabear,

Very well said.

As for the thread, I am astounded at the things that have been said regarding this campaign. We take a few days to allow our supplies to catch up and the campaign is stalled. At the same time, people are complaining that we are not going fast enough, they are also complaining that our troops don't have enough supplies.

Next, we should get out now because otherwise we would be occupiers. We just finished the campaign yesterday - lets see, we were in Germany and Japan how long after the war? I don't see us being in Iraq that long, but taking a little bit of time to help them establish their new government is appropriate. Although 24 hours would count as a little bit of time, I think it's a little too little.

And, of course, the WMD. Let's see, so our troops, should stop everything they were doing to make sure they find the stuff, including moving forward in the middle of battles and now, the police actions they are taking. Please. I personally am not so sure that some have already been found. I still find it extremely suspicious that a bunker, that is camoflauged (sp) so that it cannot be seen from the air, in the middle of a desert, contains barrels that only have pesticide in them. I'm sure the mosquito problem in that area is just terrible. Or was it fertilizer? When the nearest field is miles and miles away. They need lots of fertilizer to make sure the desert stays brown I guess.

One (or two) other comments. CEDmom, I thank you for your original post. Although I disagree with some of it, it was very well thought out and stated your opinion in a very intelligent manner.

And, jamsmom, sounds like a good idea (your 2nd paragraph), if not leaving earlier.

Oh, on the topic of 9-11....... this guy SERIOUSLY thinks that the U.S. government did it. I think he's a whack job. Scares me that dh's life sometimes is dependent on this guy while they work.
