I'm off to buy the dvd sets soon (I have season 1). But when does Lorne(The Host) and Spike join the cast? They are two of my favorite characters and one silly question. Does Lorne really sing?

Just started watching it this week. It's on TNT at 7am and I TiVo it. The first ep of the series was on Wed. Spike was just in an episode on Fri (episode #3).

Lorne joined the cast in season 2 according to this one site. My daughter and I thought he was in it during the 1st season, but upon thinking about it, I know we were wrong.

In case you don't click on the link, it states that Joss Whedon was friends with Andy Hallett and asked him to audition for the part. It also states that Andy Hallett was unsure of the role, so he kept his day job for a year.

When Buffy ended, James Marsters was very upset. He couldn't understand why so many wanted to cancel a steady job. Fans worldwide started a petition to bring him back and so when Buffy ended, James Marsters moved over to Angel. Unfortunately, that show ended on the 5th year. James was only on there for 1 season.

I think Spike was in one episode of Season 1 and one episode of Season 2 but he didn't become a regular until the last season after Buffy ended.

As stated above, Lorne joined the cast in Season 2. (I would love to see a Lorne spinoff!!!)

I can't wait for my Angel dvds to come in!!! HURRY UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :moped:

Lorne was and still is a riot, the fact he somehow talked Angel into singing is priceless.

But was his singing real?

I believe that was actually david singing. I'm not sure. but, as aforstated, lorne-season 2 spike-season 5.

I was thinking in terms of Lorne, those high notes alone are a clue of sorts.

From the link I posted above:

When "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) creator Joss Whedon saw Hallett singing in a Universal City blues revue, Whedon conceived the character of The Host, an anagogic demon who reads people when they open up through singing karaoke. Hallett was invited to try out and got the part, his first job ever as an actor.

A bit down from that:
According to an interview in the Cleveland Plain Dealer (April 24, 2003), "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" executive producer Joss Whedon had been friends with Andy Hallett and they liked to visit a "dirty, old scandalous" karaoke bar in Hollywood together; then Joss asked him to audition for the role of Lorne. Hallett joined the cast during the second season, but because he was unsure about how his flashy-dressing, green-faced character would be received, he kept his day job for an entire season.

I'd say, he was the one singing.

Edit:
and a bit down from that:
Hallett told the Cleveland Plain Dealer (April 24, 2003) that he loved singing while growing up in Osterville, Mass., but negative peer pressure made him quit. Then, at a Patti LaBelle concert, she invited him onstage to sing "Lady Marmalade" with her. When he received applause and requests for photographs, he realized that "It was really a life-changing experience."

I miss Buffy and Angel!!!

Not to echo what everyone else said, but yes, Lorne was season 2, but didn't have a "regular" part till early season 3, I believe. You were introduced to him, but his best episodes were not until seasons 3 and 4.

And yes, Spike did a couple cross overs from Buffy to Angel, but did not move over full time until Buffy ended.

There has been talk of a Spike spin off movie, but James Marsters has said it better be soon, cause he's not getting any younger, and vampires can't age!! I'd personally LOVE to see a Spike movie, as he's the sexiest vampire I've ever seen.

Also, for some great vocals from the Buffy cast, including Spike, check out the season 6 episode of Buffy, Once More With Feeling. All musical!

I'm just a little obsessed with Buffy. And a shirtless Spike.

The rumor about the Spike movie has been floating around for a while now. I know Joss is in high demand though and I'm not sure if he's going to have time to do it with Wonder Woman and Goners on his plate right now. Maybe he will give control of the reigns to one of his other writers like Tim Minear or Jane Epsenson.
