Well our first day started at 5:00 am, the alarm went off and we got up and started getting dressed. All of a sudden I realized that the lights were on in the living room. Since I knew I had turned the lights all off before we went to sleep I knew that something was odd. I stepped out into the living room to find our oldest son dressed andready to go. He was playing the PlayStation 2 while waiting for us to get out of bed, teenagers, go figure!! This was just the start of a truly unusual trip to Disney World. I start getting all of our bathroom stuff packed into a bag so we can get it into the car along with all of our other luggage, and the phone rings. That's when it crossed my mind, I
was supposed to call my mom and wake her up. Ooops!! Since my mom lives a little further south than we do, she decided she would meet us at one of the McDonald's in St. Augustine. So off we go, kids getting shoved into the car and we are on our way. There is just one problem. My gas light is on in my car, and to top it all off. I left my wallet at home. So we turn around and
get my wallet and then stop for gas. I was secretly hoping that the kids would sleep all the way to Disney, but no such luck. Even the 2 year old was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 5 am. I don't know how they do it.
We meet my mom at McDonald's and I decide to run in and get breakfast for everyone instead of waiting in the drive through. Just so that our stop for breakfast could fit in with the rest of our day, I ended up getting the wrong thing for my husband. He of course, wanted a sausage biscuit, and I got him a ham and cheese bagel. Well, par for the course I guess. Finally we get driving again and only have about an hour and a half to go, by this time it is already like 7:30 which is when I wanted to be arriving, but oh well. While we are driving David puts in one of his Dennis Leary CD's and we are laughing hysterically. Dennis Leary
was talking about how kids wear their clothes these days and he just wanted to say " Pull up your pants!!" and how you can never find "Coffee flavored coffee" anymore. At one point I was laughing so hard that I almost drove right past the I-4 exit in Daytona, which really would not have been good since the next exit after that is like 5 miles away. I made it though, so no harm no foul.
Finally, we arrive at Walt Disney World. Let me ask you a question. Have they changed the road signs at Disney? I don't remember ever having such a hard time finding my way around here before. I was trying to find Pop Century and ended
up heading towards Celebration. This is something that continued the entire time we were there. I think they want everyone to get lost. And have you ever noticed that Disney sign that says UP BUCKLE? What is up with that? Not sure who
designed that sign, but I think they need to go back to school. Anway, back on track.
We arrive at Pop Century, which is just too adorable. We go to Check-In and start getting things taken care of. I had read here about 20 times before we left that each room could use their own credit card to hold on their room keys. Well since there were 3 groups of us I wanted to put $1000 cash on our key, my mom wanted to use her credit card for her room key, and my in-laws wanted to use their credit card for their room key. Guess what?!
It doesn't work that way. Since we all were on the same reservation we could only have one card set up for all of the rooms keys. We went ahead and let my mom use the room key for her credit card, and I ended up carrying more than $1500 cash on me around the parks. Not that I think anyone would try to rob me at Disney, but I was not comfortable carrying around that kind of money. Since our rooms weren't ready yet we all decided to head straight to Disney Studios and wait for the rest of our party to arrive.
Of course, the first place we head to in MGM is Tower of Terror. Unfortunately, my baby boy Michael is still not tall enough to ride this, give him a few more months though and he'll be
good to go. We got a fastpass and my Mom decided she would wait with Michael and we could go first with our oldest boy Corey. Corey wasn't too fond of the Tower the first time he went on it,
actually he cried. He is almost 5'8 and weighs all of 90 lbs soaking wet, so when it had the lap bars he would stay up in the air as the elevator was going down. I think that scared him to death, and it doesn't help that he always got stuck next to someone who was quite a bit larger so the lap bar wouldn't come down very far on him. Since they installed the seat belts I convinced him to try it one more time, and told him that if he didn't like it he would never have to ride it again. He agreed. Well,
he still didn't like it. Though, at least he didn't start crying this time. After we got done, he said that he would sit with Michael while me, David, and my mom rode. My mom had been on it before quite a few times, and loved it. This of course was back when it first opened. So we get on the ride and she is all excited. It takes off, and does the dropping like it did before. Then it stops and you see the start of the shattering glass, all of a sudden it takes off again. I had not seen it do this before and it
even caught me off guard, but my Mom swore she almost peed herself. After that she decided she wasn't riding it again.
Michael had been really upset about not being able to go on the Tower of Terror, so we started looking for something that he could do, when we noticed all of the characters standing around the big hat. We decided we would take him to go see "Chip and Dale". The last time we went to Disney he absolutely adored the characters, but seems to have forgotten about that last trip. He would not go anywhere near them. About that time we got a phone call from David's parents saying that they had just arrived at MGM so we left the characters and waited for them by the 50's Prime Time Cafe, which is where we had priority seatings for lunch. When Nikki and Mike arrived Michael saw them
took off running to them. He jumped into his Nanny Nikki's arms and started crying, telling her about how he wanted to go see "Chip and BOB". Where he got Bob from none of us know, but it became a running joke the entire time we were there. Every time we tried to tell him that it was Chip and Dale he would
get angry and tell us no Chip-Bob!! The entire time I was thinking of Del'sWife's Trip Reports!!
Anyway, we sat down to eat at 50's Prime Time. We were seated almost immediately, and the waitress was very nice. However I didn't see the big deal. I have always heard people rave about how much fun it was and how excellent the food was, but I didn't think it was that great. To each his own I guess.
Later I will post the remainder of our first day at MGM and all the fun that goes along with it.
