Anderson Cooper

I think that Anderson is a great talent. I think that when Charlie Gibson goes to the Nightly News full time and they are looking for a replacement, Anderson would be great. He can do hard news and he can be great on fluff (see how he was on the Mole).

Anderson Cooper has been co-hosting with Kelly Ripa on Regis and Kelly and he's been great. He has great chemistry with Kelly and can talk about hard news and American Idol with the same intensity! LOL!

But do you think that America will accept a morning talk show host who doesn't talk about his personal life. I would hope so and personally I wouldn't care if he talked about a partner if he has one. But I'm pretty open about those things. I don't want to create rumors but I suspect that Robin Roberts might be gay and it doesn't bother me one bit if she is or not.

I hope that America would accept Anderson for his talent and intellect. He does not hide his sexual orientation, but he has maintained that he is entitled to the same privacy as anyone else in America. Anderson does not want to be a "gay news anchor," but rather a news anchor who happens to be gay. He loves his job and does it well. That's the important thing.

Our sexual orientations---heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual---do not define us as individuals. They contribute to the richness and complexities of our lives, but are simply one aspect of a multi-faceted individual.

Did you happen to notice if he was signing things other than his book? I saw there's a "book signing" coming up in NYC and I was considering going. I have the pink anderson Cooper t-shirt and I would love to get that signed. Any hope?
ETA: I won't be wearing the shirt. I was just going to take it with me. :)

The signings are largely controlled by the publisher and the host book store. At the signing I attended, the store made it clear that Anderson would only sign the book and nothing else.

Some people asked if they could have Anderson sign copies of the book that they had purchased elsewhere. The store strongly discouraged it, but did not prohibit it. A store manager explained to the crowd that publishers examine book sales at signing events and that determines whether or not a store will have the opportunity to host future author appearances.

Great post! ITA. Do you know how many books AC sold that night? Just curious, I heard that 85 books is a great book signing. I was really suprised by the number.

I don't know how many he sold the night I saw him. I overheard a store manager say that he signed 700 (!) copies of the book the night before at the Barnes & Nobel in NYC and that they were hoping to sell 500 books that evening. That makes it all the more amazing how personable he was. If I had to sign 700 copies of anything I would be worried about a hand cramp and perhaps even a bit grumpy. Anderson greeted everyone with a warm smile, shook everyone's hand, and personalized the books with their names. When I told him that I had also attended Yale, he even added an extra line to his incription referencing Yale. What a guy!

Wow! I know very little about book signing but that is amazing! I'm so glad to hear that he is as polite and nice as he seems on the air. I think that he must have been brought up right!

Relax, girls...I understand Anderson is openly gay.

Well I still love Anderson...it's not like I thought he'd ever give a chubby Canadian gal a second glance!!!!

I am so glad to read the posts of the people that have attended his book signings and to find out that he really is as nice as I hoped he would be. I hope someoday that I have the opportunity to meet Anderson so I can tell him how much his book touched me.

I think Anderson is an amazing reporter and an exceptional writer. I sure hope he has someone special to share his life with.
