and yet ANOTHER question about the HOJO!

Hey Pixie and Dangermouse, will this "shortcut" be obvious to us? We've never stayed at the Hojo but will be there in early May. Is there a crosswalk at Manchester and then you cut through a shuttle area near the main entrance? More details please if they are necessary. THANKS!!

Picture Harbor going north/south. HoJo is up north, on the right of the street as you're looking down at a map. You can cross Manchester and walk down HoJo on the same side as hoJo, which takes you past mimis and McDonald's and all the other hotels. You'll be with most of the herd doing that, and will cross Harbor down across from the Disneyland sign, and it's all very obvious. Or you can take the crosswalk that's "part of" Manchester, crossing Harbor right there next to HoJo's. That lets you walk down Harbor on the no-hotel, no-restaurant side of the street.

I've never done that walk, but I can see its beauty. And since I haven't done it I can't describe cutting through the shuttle area, but I expect it will be very obvious when you get there. Things generally are easier to understand when you're there, vs when you're trying to get it straight in your mind beforehand!

Thanks , stuff like that is a great tip! The breakfast at Desert Palms in October was not that great and was not open early enough to eat before MM anyway. I almost never eat breakfast , my weight loss surgery stomach just won't let me unless I am up a couple of hours at least, so we can go without and have an early lunch , my boys are not big eaters for b-fast so we can pack cereal bars for them and get some milk.
I have never had a continental b-fast worth much more then maybe $ 10.00 for the four of us.

As Molly said the cross walks are very obvious.
We leave and head towards the parks, cross Manchester walking the same direction as Harbor, on the other side of the street is another crosswalk crossing
Harbor. Cross here and walk down Harbor, as you get to the bus stop (you'll know it when you walk thru it) keep your eyes to the right, as soon as you can cut through to the right and walk past the taxis sitting there, then you walk through the area where shuttles do drop offs and pick ups. Walk past the "red" section I believe (not 100% sure but I think it's red, look at the signs as you walk past them, you'll see what I mean) and head to security and the esplanade. Walking this way we miss the crowds of others walking down the opposite side of the street.

Ok.....I think ya'll have convinced me. I would love comming back to a comfy clean bed....even if it's a few extra steps to get there. and if we were too tired, we could take the ART back to the hotel right? I am beginning to see that it would be cheaper to have groceries delivered and have the dang breakfast in my room as opposed to going to some common room that may be on the other side of the hotel....hence, taking care of the part about me loving the convience of the cont. b-fasts.....

Yes, ART will take you to the HoJo, there are also many taxis that would love to take you back. You will have options just in case.

And remember the HoJo has a convenience store in bldg 1, you can always grab breakfast stuff there too.

Yep, that's the route we take. Much shorter, and less people to contend with.

On the code, does anybody know how long the SD50 is for? Tried using it on the Hojo site, for dates of Nov 13-16, its showing the regular rates.

Well since we've done this the last couple of trips I would have to disagree. We have walked on the sidewalk, there is no grass but plenty of flowers planted. No way would I walk down that side if there was no sidewalk. Yes, you do walk next to the monorail tracks but yes, there is a sidewalk. On the first part of the walk the sidewalk is next to the street, as you get a little farther down there are plants between you and the street.

That's a great idea to cross the street and walk on the other side. I had never thought of that but will be doing it in September.

Those tall box-like bushes...those are the reason that many of you don't walk that way at night, yes? Because it's just a bit too, well, private?

Actually no, those bushes/trees are on the inside of the sidewalk, next to the fence that blocks DL off. It's actually hard for me to even tell what part of Harbor that is! LOL

I see the monorail tracks but that doesn't look right, when we walk back to the HoJo there are NO bushes between us and the street.....maybe that's just an old picture?

pixie, I think Molly is pointing out the fact that the bushes next to the chain-link DLR fencing are a place where someone could hide in or around to jump out at you??? They aren't that deep of bushes, really are are sparse . . . just enough to hide the backstage stuff they don't want you to see.

In the photo, you are facing north, basically parked parallel with MiMi's heading toward the HoJo.

That makes sense then DM. Thanks The bushes aren't thick enough to hide anyone, they are pretty closely cut to the fence. And Molly, I'd be happy to show you around too.....I think we were even there the same weekend once and I looked but didn't see you.

you know there are sooooooooooo many people coming and going down that street and with McDonalds being within site of Hojo there is really no worries...its well lighted and many people park their cars right in mimi's parking lot for the whole day and come back at night and leave...I stay there all the time and I have never felt fearful of my life...its always a peaceful nice walk back..dont stress over this...your going to laugh once you see for yourself

Very cool, I really thought it was all grass on that side which is why I never walked that way. I will give it try next time I'm there. I could have sworn there was no sidewalk, that's so strange. You learn something everyday on the disboards!

There is a road that runs through the area, but in all the years we've done this, I've only had to stop and wait for a car to pass a couple of times, and it's usually earlier in the day/night. It's not a busy street. I see a lot of people doing it. At night coming back to the hotel, after park closing, there is literally no traffic. One could very safely cross right over there and avoid a few extra steps as long as the stay aware and look both ways before crossing. We've been going since 2001 and doing this and have never had a problem yet. It really shaves a big chunk out of your walking time, and beats walking all the way up to the Manchester crosswalk only to have to walk back down again to Hojo anyway. Again it's up to you all as individuals to decide what's best for you.

I used to cut through the MiMi's lot until I learned that crossing Harbor at Manchester actually is quicker because of the shortcuts through the taxi/tram areas and you avoid getting slowed by a crowd of people in front of you from other hotels.
