And Then There Was One... **BIRDIE PHOTOS** (8/8) PLUS BONUS MOVIE!

Well, I DID get up this morning to try to capture some of the birdies' "big leaps", but after an hour of waiting, I surrendered. The bird who "flew the coop" yesterday had a "1st-born" kind of personality. He was constantly chirping and hopping around the nest. You could tell that he was eager to take on the world. As I watched the other birds this morning, they seemed quite complacent to sit and snooze, so I thought that perhaps today was not "their day" to venture out on their own.

My DH left for work about an hour later, and at that point one bird had left, and two were remaining. By the time I arose, another hour later, the 3rd had left and there was only one remaining. I've been castigating myself all day for not sticking it out this morning. I feel like I let you all down. And to make it worse, I have no idea where any of the fledglings are. I've looked high and low across the area to no avail. Well, I suppose that's a good thing. If I can't find them, predators shouldn't be able to, either!

So, here's a picture of the last little birdie. I'm guessing it was the "runt" that we noticed in a few of my earlier pics. He just seemed to develop a little slower than the others. He looks a bit lonely, don't you think?

So I'm determined to get up at sunrise tomorrow and sit out for as long as I have to so that I can say "goodbye" to the last little guy as he ventures off. <img src="http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/sad/mecry.gif">

The birds that hatched near our sun deck, did the same thing. All but one left on the same day and left one behind. I set up the video cam and caught the last one "falling" out of the nest.

Looks like you have raised your bird family the best you can, now they have to go out into the cold, cold world and fend for themselves

Oh my, Kara, only one little birdie left. He does look lonely in the nest--but at least no one is sitting on him now!! The little fellow who left yesterday certainly has a LOUD chirp!!!!! I know you feel sad that your "little ones" are flying away but you have done a wonderful job looking after them. You have such wonderful memories!! Thank you for sharing with all of us on the DIS!

I'm sad to report that when I returned home from the mall tonight the last little bird had flown the coop. I'm experiencing "empty nest syndrome" and I'm finding that I don't like it very much. (sniff, sniff)
