I was part of an osteoporosis study today. As part of the study, a DEXA scan is done of your whole body. This gives you bone density as well as fat and lean mass.
Well, it said I am 73.5grams in mass, that's 161.5 pounds. I already knew that, move along. I'm 70.2kg in height (5' 4.8"). Sooo. Overweight yes. But not too bad. 11 pounds with clothes and shoes on.
Well, but then it breaks your mass down by fat, bone, and lean mass.
I am 40.5% fat.
That is right at the tipping point for what is considered obese. Surprisingly, my little skinny arms are the most obese part of me, and that belly I've been trying to lose? Is in the normal % range! My legs are obese, but my head is skinny. (A skinny head as a saving grace.
)
I was about to cancel my membership to WW'rs, but no more. I am now determined. I will pay the $100 to have this done when I am down by 15lbs to compare. I'm getting on the elliptical and joining a local Zumba class and maybe I'll even start the Couch to 5K program. My Disney trip is coming up in September; I hope to be down one dress size by then!
I'm going to scan my report and put copies up where I can see them. Just to
me whenever I start to stray. I shouldn't be overweight at all, and this high of a body % of fat is really scary. There is a high risk of type II diabetes on my birth father's side, and the absolute only thing that lowers the risk of that is weight loss.
Going to Zumba tonight for my first time and I can't dance to save my life. This will be interesting.
