And so it begins

I am SO glad DD's a Senior in HS. Haven't had any fund raisers since she left middle school! Good luck!

we stopped selling a few years ago, I just make a donation instead. Now instead of selling things, our schools want the parents to work at professional sporting events and concerts selling things. My ds was told if we don't work 2 events this year he will not be able to be in chess club.

DD goes back to school in 2 weeks, but for cheerleading she already had to sell pizza's. I did the buy-out. In Sept. she will have to sell candy bars. DH will bring them to work.

DD started a new school this year so this is our first experience with fundraisers---magazines:( So after 4 years of buying cookies, popcorn, candy, wrapping paper and other useful:rolleyes: stuff how I am ever going to get even by selling magazines??? Everyone I know either takes more magazines than they can read or no magazines at all. I wish the school would just ask for donations...

We haven't even started school yet but the Fund Raiser will be one of the first big "events" of the school year:rolleyes:

Mommystieg, my kids should start the magazine thing up soon. That one really irks me. They tell the kids to sign up people's names/addresses, and they give them incentives to do this. If they turn the names/addresses in by such and such date, they get free suckers or free ice cream. The classrooms in each grade that has the most names/addresses turned in by that date get to have a popcorn party or something like that. It makes it TOO competitive to do that. I don't like how they have the kids write little love notes to the people on the fillouts either.

Gette, I love that pizza idea though.:) We don't do that though.:(

Im a sucker for this junk, everybody send there kids over

LOL, same here Jason. But my DH is worse than me! If he answers the door, whatever the kids are selling, they are about to make a big sale!:teeth:

Just put the names of all the family pets on the magazine booklet, then people will know not to order. You usually get $2 dollars per booklet filled out. But you get nothing if someone orders any magazines, as you are getting it up front with the booklet. Actually I like this fundraiser, as the school gets $2 for every booklet returned. You don't have to buy or sell anything.

i thought you were gonna say, "and so it begins...the days of our lives" or something like that

I'll buy some candy bars! are they fat free and sugar less? ;)

Oh boy....our magazine sales will start in a couple weeks. Boy, does this stress me out!!! Each kid is expected to sell 10 subscriptions each. The get prizes for x number of magazines sold and if they sell all 10 subscriptions, they get a free ticket to an afternoon Cardinal baseball game in the spring. I really have issues with this one because 1) (imo) it's a slap in the face to the kids that don't sell the 10 subscriptions (and it's not just because dd didn't get to go that it aggravates me) 2) they've done nothing academically to obtain this reward 3) it's on school time they get to go. I noticed last spring about 1/2 of each grade went. My dd did not and if it ever becomes that big of an embarassment for her down the road, I will keep one or both of them home that day and we will do something fun. Our family will now be expected to sell 20 subscriptions for both dd's. They only get 40% back for each subscription. I'd rather write out a $100 check per kid and be done with it!!!!!

Rant over!!:)

DD will be bringing home the magazine info today:rolleyes: Oh great, she is such a sensitive child that if she doesn't sell enough for rewards or incentives she will be so disappointed. That is just not fair and I think you are sending the kids the wrong message--that's not really working together to help your school. I like the idea about the family pets....I wish all of you luck on your fundraisers.

Ill buy your candy bars if youll buy an entertainment book!
