And a Very Happy Birthday to ME!! A Journey in October 2012 That's a Wrap! 4.27.13

When I left off last we had just arrived at Epcot!!

We walk past England

IMG_2611.jpg

and head to Mexico.

IMG_2613.jpg

Supper is to be had at San Angel Inn tonight! Keith had wanted to eat here in July but we couldn’t fit it in. He really likes the places with atmosphere so this one fits the bill! I had made the ADR for 5pm so we could go to ESPN Club to watch Sunday Night football with The Saints and Broncos. But the Saints season was not going to Keith’s satisfaction and decided we would not go to ESPN Club. This night’s ADR was changed so many times with times and places but basically these places were included in the many changes: San Angel Inn, ESPN Club, Biergarten and Coral Reef. In the end I wish that for this night I had gone with Coral Reef. Why? Well let’s take a walk down memory lane and see what we can find out about our meal!

We arrive at the podium 10 minutes early and are given a buzzer. Before we sit down good the buzzer begins…well, buzzing…and we are taken to a table. The tables are extremely close. So close in fact that I was closer to the man sitting next to me than my own husband sitting at my table!!

IMG_2615.jpg

IMG_2623.jpg

IMG_2617.jpg

IMG_2624.jpg

We get our menus and begin perusing the choices. Keith proceeds to ask why we are here…not much to eat of interest. Now you have to understand that Keith doesn’t like to discuss the plans ahead of time. He tells me whatever but this particular place... from day one of planning the trip he had said he wanted to eat. This was one I never considered marking off the list when doing my multiple changes.

Well, as we look at the menu the wonderful chips and salsa are brought out as well as our drinks: Michelob for Keith and Jalapeno Margarita for me.

IMG_2619.jpg

The margarita is one I had read about on several TRs and wanted to give it a shot. It is delicious but it is very potent!! One was definitely my limit since I don’t drink very much at all. Thankfully I was able to handle one but if I had ordered two…I may have needed help exiting!

We still are discussing what to order. I had planned on this to be out-of-pocket since I had planned a 2 credit TS later in the week for my birthday. But as we discuss everything I decide we will cancel the 2 credit place and use a TS credit here and make a new ADR at another 1 credit TS for Wednesday. I have two or three places in mind.

For Wednesday I had wobbled between Artist Point and Hollywood Brown Derby. I decided on Artist Point. Then I had time to mull everything over and all of my indecisions made me change to the Brown Derby. Then I thought “What if we need a 1 credit place?” so I made an ADR for Yak and Yeti (yes I had two ADRs at one time for Wednesday evening ;)). Well right before the trip knowing I needed to cancel one, I cancelled Yak and Yeti even though people on Liners had given me rave recommendations for trying. That left me with the Brown Derby which will now be cancelled. Did you follow all of that?! Seriously, that is the turmoil I had going on for 6 weeks leading up to this trip and not just for one meal time but every single ADR except Monday night!

Okay so now I have a choice between Yak and Yeti, Biergarten or Coral Reef for our final night. I’ll let you mull that one over! But now back to this meal! Now that we have decided to use our TS credit, we have an entrée and dessert to decide on!

We both go with what I had planned to order all along: Carne Asada a la Tampiquena.

IMG_2622.jpg

This entrée consists of a grilled beef tenderloin served with a cheese enchilada (which is like 1 ½ inches long), black refried beans, red bell pepper , onion, Mexican rice and guacamole.

After all of the turmoil and indecision because there wasn’t much that appealed to us, the food came out, we dove in and it was very delicious! We made an excellent choice! The food was very filling as well.

Our server was fairly attentive. He did disappear at one point but it was all good. Aside from the closeness of the tables and the lack of choices, we enjoyed our meal. We probably will return one day but this is not a table service restaurant we would put on our Top 10 list!

For dessert we had the Crema Bavaria mousse with mixed berries, cinnamon and orange liqueur and I think I had a cheesecake type of dessert but I no longer see it on the menu. I tried both and they both were very good!!

IMG_2626.jpg

Being completely stuffed, we decided to head out and wander a bit. The crowds were crazy which I had anticipated due to it being a weekend and the Food and Wine Festival was going on. I never intended on us doing much on Sunday night at Epcot due to the many recommendations to avoid Epcot on the weekends during the festival.

The evening was beautiful!!

IMG_2627.jpg

IMG_2629.jpg

IMG_2630.jpg

We make our way to the cranberry bog which is super cool! We enjoyed looking at it although the light was waning on us.

IMG_2631.jpg

IMG_2633.jpg

IMG_2635.jpg

We headed in the direction of Mission Space and I really do not know why. I want to say I went into Mousegears and made a purchase. After missing out on several souvenirs I wanted I knew not to say I would be back. I took advantage of every chance to purchase what I wanted! I am thinking that while I was shopping Keith sat on a bench in front of Electric Umbrella and maybe went to the restroom close to Test Track. I say all of this because I know while I was looking for him, I took these photos:

IMG_2638.jpg

Those pictures are the only thing that gives me a clear memory of what I think occurred!

We were getting tired by this point and decided to just call it a day. It was around 7pm but we figured we could catch the game at the resort.

IMG_2639.jpg

IMG_2640.jpg

As we exited the park I took a few shots of the huge glowing ball!

IMG_2643.jpg

IMG_2645.jpg

Once back at the resort, we ran into the food court to get our beverage mug and some hot chocolate.

IMG_2646.jpg

Before long we were in our room watching the Saints blow it against the Broncos. Keith looked at me and said “Glad we didn’t go somewhere special to watch this” and proceeded to change the channel.

We ended the night watching a show about people house hunting in Alaska. Keith loves Alaska since he went many times while in the Air Force. The show is like House Hunters but in the first episode the hubby wants to move to Alaska to raise sled dogs. This means needing a certain type of land area. They find three potential homes. These homes are in ALASKA and have no running water, no indoor bathrooms and two did not have a kitchen with one having a “camp kitchen” and another having a kitchen under a shed outside…with no walls…in ALASKA!!!!!

There was one with a semblance of a kitchen and an indoor bathroom with potable water. Oh and the electricity was provided by a generator. I began saying my thankful prayers that I have indoor plumbing and running water that doesn’t have to be boiled and a kitchen that doesn’t require layers of clothing to go outside in the winter. Well, that was off topic but as I remembered this evening I couldn’t NOT mention this! :rotfl:

We had a great first day!! It was relaxed and it definitely had a go with the flow spirit to it. The next day follows suit. And our only plan is Hoop Dee Doo at 8pm so that gives us a whole day to look at one another and say “So, honey, whatchawanna do?!”

I got behind again! Sounds like a great DHS day. I'm glad that Keith agreed to see BatB with you. :goodvibes

I just made ADRs for our July trip, and now you've got me questioning them!!! San Angel sounds great!

I understand since I stay behind and it is taking me forever to do updates! :scared:

Don't you love it when you think you have it all down and then you read and see things and question yourself!? San Angel was very good and turned out better than we anticipated when we first sat down!

Yay for a great first day!!:cool1:

We have always wanted to try San Angel Inn. The atmosphere looks really cool but....wow those tables do look close!:scratchin I'm glad you enjoyed your meal!

Beautiful pictures in Epcot!! I love the one with the monorail!!

Those tables look way too close together in that restaurant for me. But, I'm glad y'all enjoyed the meal.

Sounds like it was a nice, relaxing evening. And your evening pictures are really pretty!

That is crazy about the house hunting show in Alaska. I don't think I could live there even with indoor plumbing and a heater. :lmao:

I stood there for ten minutes waiting on that monorail to come! Glad you liked the picture!! :goodvibes

San Angel Inn is pretty good even with the closeness of the tables!

Can you imagine living like that in ALASKA!!! :faint:

IMG_2647.jpg

This day began much like the previous morning! We went to the food court and grabbed some breakfast though today! No walking around a park looking for something to eat!

IMG_2648.jpg

After filling our tummies with omelets and bacon we set out to the bus stops. Again we decide to let fate guide us!

This time fate took us to Animal Kingdom!!

IMG_2650.jpg

Keith has begun to find this park boring since he really isn’t into the animals like I am. I find the details of this park amazing! But since he doesn’t care for riding a lot of rides, this regulates this park to a short morning!

IMG_2651.jpg

It was very cold as we went through the bag check. VERY COLD!! We get through the bag check painlessly and head off looking for our first attraction….It’s Tough to Be A Bug!”

IMG_2652.jpg

This is actually one of the reasons Keith even wanted to go to this park. Originally I had not planned on his going here at all due to Keith’s lack of enthusiasm for Animal Kingdom.

At one point about three weeks before the trip, I had made a late ADR for Yak and Yeti (Wednesday evening) since it is different and not somewhere we had been before. I also had an ADR for Hollywood Brown Derby for that night and was trying to decide if I wanted to do one OOP (San Angel Inn….you may remember me describing this already. These dilemmas were what I dealt with for this whole trip! It shouldn’t be that difficult!) In the end both of these get cancelled…as I stated in the last post. But I will leave you guessing as to what I finally settled on for our last night’s dinner!

So back to Monday morning! We make our way to the Tree of Life and I grab a couple of pictures.

IMG_2653.jpg

IMG_2655.jpg

IMG_2656.jpg

Of course this never disappoints us and we have so much fun seeing this little movie!

Now is the BIG question! What to do next!!

IMG_2657.jpg

IMG_2659.jpg

We begin walking and make our way to Expedition Everest.

IMG_2660.jpg

IMG_2661.jpg

IMG_2663.jpg

IMG_2664.jpg

IMG_2666.jpg

IMG_2668.jpg

IMG_2669.jpg

IMG_2670.jpg

I don’t really want to ride alone (I have before but just didn’t feel like going solo at this time) so we head off to find Malaharajah Jungle Trek. I love this little trail.

IMG_2667.jpg

IMG_2673.jpg

IMG_2674.jpg

IMG_2675.jpg

It is so much fun to see the bats and tigers!!

Continued in the following post....

The bats!!

IMG_2677.jpg

IMG_2678.jpg

The tigers were being cooperative this very cold October morning!

IMG_2680.jpg

IMG_2683.jpg

IMG_2684.jpg

IMG_2685.jpg

IMG_2687.jpg

And there were these guys running to and fro!

IMG_2688.jpg

IMG_2690.jpg

IMG_2691.jpg

And this guy was observing it all! I wondered if he was King of the Herd! He sure held himself like it!

IMG_2689.jpg

IMG_2693.jpg

Then we wrapped around to more tigers...

IMG_2699.jpg

IMG_2700.jpg

IMG_2702.jpg

IMG_2704.jpg

IMG_2705.jpg

Kali River is one of Keith’s favorites but it was just too cold to contemplate getting wet. It appeared the dousing was turned down a bit but we didn’t want to take any chances!

From there we really didn’t know what we wanted to do next so we wandered and found ourselves at the bus stop before long!

IMG_2707.jpg

IMG_2711.jpg

So....what next?

As much as I love the theming of AK, I kind of feel the same as Keith.:confused3

I considered skipping AK on our next trip (in favor of even more time in new FL!), but DH rightly pointed out that Maddie wouldn't go for it. She always wants to be sure to go to all 4 parks.

Can't wait to hear more!

We are with Keith....we just don't really like AK.

In fact, when I was trying to talk Ed into letting us to go back to Disney this year, he agreed stating, "Only if I don't have to go to Animal Kingdom this year." :lmao:

Your pictures are very pretty though! :thumbsup2

Interested to see what y'all did with the rest of the day!

Although AK is not my favorite park, I do enjoy seeing all the details the park has to offer. I especially love walking the trails. We haven't done it since our 2009 trip so I definitely need to make it a priority when we go back. Great pictures!!:thumbsup2

Yes I am here! I apologize for disappearing! Life has been crazy and really doesn't seem to be slowing down. I have wrapped up "Stop and Smell the Roses" though so maybe I can at least get one post a month done here! :rotfl:

Seriously, I am thankful to whoever has stuck around and will continue on this journey with me!!

I love going to AK because I just love the theme but it is one I could skip on a trip and be okay with it. More to come! ;)

I definitely am seeing a trend towards the anti-AK gang here!! :lmao: I think Ed and Keith are most definitely on the same page!

I think the details are what makes me like AK so much! It has a different vibe than the other parks. We don't have a good zoo nearby and I love animals so I really enjoy the safari and the trails!

First a quick catch-up: We are on Monday, October 29. Keith and I went to AK first, which I seem to be the only person to like this park....:rolleyes1 We walked a trail, saw It's Tough to Be A Bug and now we are on the bus.....we are headed to Epcot!! It is time to get the grub on!!! :woohoo:

IMG_2714.jpg

We had decided that Epcot for lunch would be great!

IMG_2715.jpg

After all, one of the main reasons I wanted this trip was the Food and Wine Festival! I had made out a huge list of things I wanted to try and had looked at the map prior to heading to Orlando. I was prepared….ready to go!! Bring on the food!!!!!! I even had down which ones I would use snack credits on (the higher priced items) and which ones I wanted the most, 2nd most and if I just needed something. Almost all of the food items are on the dining plan for snack credits so this is great!

TIP: It had been recommended to get a gift card that they sell at almost every single kiosk and load it up to keep from digging for money at each place. Well, I almost did this but I quickly realized that I was charging it to my room via my KTTW so it kind of worked the same. Thus I recommend if you are not using the charge to your room feature on your KTTW, get the gift card! Plus it has a wrist band that makes it extremely handy!!

We arrive at Epcot and head for the food!!! I wanted to sample around at the different places. This worked great for me and I really enjoyed grabbing something small and hanging out while we ate before moving to the next local. At first Keith did not like this at all and wanted to find a counter service to order a “real meal” and sit down, filling up at one time. By the end of the week I think he caught on and saw it for what it was. He definitely warmed up to it but being not as adventurous as me, he skipped some things entirely!

“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay home.”

We arrive at Epcot and begin the trek to all of the lovely food kiosks and I begin thinking “What do I want first?”! Along the way, we stop and look more closely at the cranberry bog. We had seen it the previous night but since it was getting dark, we weren’t able to really see it!

IMG_2716.jpg

IMG_2717.jpg

IMG_2720.jpg

Then we stopped and looked at the watermelon patch. It was set up very cute but since my grandfather had watermelons growing in his garden every single year, it wasn’t a novelty to me and besides…I was hungry!!

IMG_2722.jpg

IMG_2723.jpg

IMG_2724.jpg

IMG_2725.jpg

As luck would have it the first food source was just to our right (going towards Canada)! We made a stop at Hawaii!!!

IMG_2726.jpg

I ordered two Kalua Pork Sliders ($3.25 each). I had intended to purchase one to share but Keith hadn’t caught on yet. Boy was I happy I had bought two! They were so delicious and one of our top 5 favorites!!

IMG_2727.jpg

After we had finished off the pork sliders we were in search of our next food adventure!! Next we settled on Greece!

IMG_2730.jpg

I had heard a lot of people talking about the Griddled Cheese which had honey drizzled over it and also pistachios (3.25 each). I wasn’t too sure Keith would care for this delicacy since he doesn’t like cheese. I ordered one of these and it was very good!!!! Keith even said it tasted good so that says a lot!!

IMG_2729.jpg

In geography I never learned that between Greece and Ireland you can find Canada…interesting!!!

IMG_2732.jpg

Right next to Greece was the Ireland stand

IMG_2733.jpg

and I had a little something on my wish list from this country: the Lobster and Seafood Pie ($6.00 each but I used a snack credit on this one).

IMG_2735.jpg

It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. There was a lot of mashed potatoes or something similar. The chunks of seafood and lobster were plentiful enough. Once I dug into this one I thought it very tasty! So far everything we had tried was a winner!! Any of the foods we had sampled, we would have gone back for more!!

While we munched on the Lobster and Seafood Pie, Keith had purchased a beer from England:

IMG_2736.jpg

As Keith enjoyed his beer we wandered into England and the World Showcase Performers were acting out the same play as in July when I got pulled from the audience! We stopped and enjoyed the show.

IMG_2737.jpg

IMG_2738.jpg

About midway through we went through one of the stores and watched from behind since the front was fairly crowded!

IMG_2739.jpg

IMG_2740.jpg

IMG_2741.jpg

IMG_2742.jpg

IMG_2743.jpg

IMG_2744.jpg

After the show was finished, I walked through a few stores while Keith finished off his beer.

IMG_2745.jpg

IMG_2746.jpg

IMG_2747.jpg

We exited through the English gardens which are always so beautiful!!

IMG_2749.jpg

IMG_2750.jpg

IMG_2751.jpg

Before long we were crossing over the canal and heading into France!!

IMG_2752.jpg

IMG_2753.jpg

IMG_2754.jpg

Moving through France, we found ourselves in Belgium!

IMG_2758.jpg

IMG_2760.jpg

I purchased a box of truffles (1.75 each) and thought I would buy more later…later never came! But this box had two in it and they were divine!!!

IMG_2761.jpg

Also while in Belgium we dined on Steamed Mussels ($3.75 each). These were pretty good. Nothing over the top but they had a good flavor to them. There was also a piece of crusty bread that sopped the juices up nicely and was a nice addition!!

IMG_2762.jpg

Moving along we found ourselves in Morocco and I snapped a few pictures.

IMG_2763.jpg

IMG_2764.jpg

IMG_2765.jpg

We lingered in the shops for a little bit before moving on to Singapore.

IMG_2767.jpg

Singapore had Mongolian Beef ($4.50 each) that I really wanted to try. Now let me say that if you get the Mongolian Beef, be sure you have something to drink! This stuff is SPICY!!! But it was delicious! It is served on rice and if you combine the rice, it breaks it down somewhat. This was one of my favorites! I love spicy foods though and since I thought it was spicy, know it has a kick to it!!

IMG_2766.jpg

Continued in the following post...

Keith headed off through Japan

IMG_2768.jpg

to America to locate a Diet Coke while I made a pit stop at a new locale: Florida Local!

IMG_2770.jpg

IMG_2769.jpg

I chose to get the Shrimp Ceviche ($4.25 each) and Key Limen wine ($2.75).

IMG_2771.jpg

The wine was very good&light and fruity! The Shrimp Ceviche was good but after the Mongolian Beef it seemed somewhat bland. I probably should have tried it again for a more accurate review.

We sat on the fountains edge in America while we munched on the shrimp.
We then decided to make our way to a new destination. By this time we were getting satisfied and didnt want to over stuff ourselves! We had a big dinner coming up!!

IMG_2773.jpg

We walked to Italy and jumped on one of the Friendship boats.

IMG_2774.jpg

IMG_2776.jpg

IMG_2777.jpg

We made our way across the lagoon and soon we were disembarking.

IMG_2778.jpg

IMG_2779.jpg

IMG_2780.jpg

IMG_2781.jpg

We walked back to the front of the park and began to discuss what to do next!

That is the Mongolian Beef that almost killed me! We tried it right as they were closing for the night and I think we got the end of the batch and all the spice condensed into our portion. OMG, I seriously thought I was going to die!

It is very spicy and I usually warn people if I don't think something is spicy that I can take the heat. So if I say it is spicy it really, really is! If it was concentrated being at the end of the batch....:scared: That would have killed me too!!!!

I'm still here! Trying to get caught up on both TRs since you've been updating so much!

F&W looks awesome. I hope we get to experience it someday. Did Keith enjoy the experience?

Grace and I are going in October this year and I've already started our list. Your great TR is making the wait that much more unbearable! :lmao:

I agree completely!!!! :thumbsup2

Then we stopped and looked at the watermelon patch. It was set up very cute but since my grandfather had watermelons growing in his garden every single year, it wasn’t a novelty...
I guess they won't have to worry about deer getting into the patch but you know how much those mice love 'em. Since it's Mickey's house, I'm sure they'll let him pass.

While we munched on the Lobster and Seafood Pie, Keith had purchased a beer from England:

Okay...Keith and I can hang together!! :drinking1

Bring it on...if crawfish and chili don't make you break out in a sweat, it's not hot enough!

Great, great, great TR!! Like all your TR's, it gives me things to add to my WDW bucket list! :cool1:

It seems so hard to update and read lately but then I get on a roll only to hit a wall again!

F&W was amazing! I definitely want to get back there one day! Keith did enjoy it...once he got the hang of going from kiosk to kiosk!

Was there any doubt I'd be here?!?!

I always can count on you to be lurking about!! :goodvibes

Thank you! And there is more to come so maybe I can put a few more things on that list!!
