I just went to the Virgin Island website where they list what cruise ships are coming in on what day- On 1/12, the Magic is put down as "anchorage" so does that mean that we will "tender in" on that day?

thanks
cathy

Yes if a dock isn't listed then it means you will anchor in the harbor and tender in. This usually happens when there are a large number of ships in port.

The bad news - tendering does take a little while and you would have to grab a cab if you wanted to see Paradise Point (which is a short walk from where the ships dock).

The good news - you can get some beautiful shots of the Magic when she is anchored and the tenders will drop you right in downtown - great if you like shopping.

The bad part of tendering:
If you're in a power chair or electric scooter you most likely have to stay on the ship as lift-equipped ships are rare.

Which Website did you check. The one I know about still only lists the December schedule. I would love to have this information for our upcoming trip. Tendering is a big deal for my daughter due to a problem with her feet and a bad experience on our last cruise. Thanks for your help.

Edited: I found it. We are docking. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Thanks so much.

Can anyone advise how long it takes to tender in from the ship? Just curious.

Happy New Year!

-I went to http://www.vinow.com and then clicked on "cruise guide & schedule", it must have just changed early yesterday because the day before it still was just showing December-

-I am amazed about the powerchair issue- I guess DCL doesn't have to follow ADA requirements out of country, huh?

Tarquin, looks like we'll have 7 others ships at port with us next week. Ugh!
That is going to be crazy.

While tendering is not a good as anchoring it is not bad. We tendered last year and the ride is not difficult and I did get some very good pictures of the Magic coming and going

Where are you dropped off when you tender? Is it closer to town?
When you tender in you are dropped right in downtown Charlotte Amile - very nice for shopping. Usually too when DCL has to tender (like in Grand Cayman) they will set up tents to wait under. This keeps passengers waiting out of the sun. They usually have water available as well. They try much harder than other lines we have seen.

I'm glad to hear we get dropped off right in town. I was going to take a cab over there.
Does anyone know how much a cab would be to go from town to the sky tram?

I'm getting confused. If you're anchoring, doesn't it mean you're also tendering?

Mickey Minder, the Magic is shown as "Inner Anchorage" for all dates in January and February. Did you see something different? Does "Inner Anchorage" still mean you'll be tendered from the ship?

Sorry to be so dense.

The two sites I checked for the 01/22 cruise both show Crown Bay dock. I did not see anchorage on either one. But maybe I missed something. :confused3

 Um. I was looking at 2004. Sorry.

Has anyone found February 2005 listed anywhere?

had some fun with this pic lol

Ok...I am confused...what exactly is tendering? In detail please......

tendering is when they ancer (sp srry im bad at spelling) and then they have a smaller boat take you to the island.

In St. Thomas, if the Magic is scheduled to anchor, the place where the tender drops off is in the same bay area as the port, you can see the port across the bay, however the walk on land is a good ways, at least over a mile.

Picture a horseshoe and the port is on one of the tips and the tender drop off area is at the top of the bend. This area is where the shops are, the outdoor market, lots of cabs, etc. However, if you're renting a car, you have a nice hike to the port to the car rental as well as to the tram.

It has its advantages, the view of all of the ships in port and in anchorage is spectacular. There are usually several ships anchoring, the inner/outer thing probably relates to where in the area they are designated to drop anchor. Some ships are closer into the horseshoe, some drop anchor a little further out. Also, when you're on board, you have a great view of the ships coming and going. It'sa fabulous port, lots of activity. When the Magic first began to go there they anchored and tendered often, I think they have a little more seniority now and it's not often they have to. Maybe only during certain months of the year.
