Here are a few quotes from the article:

"Citing the sharp decline in travel after Sept. 11, ANC Rental Corp (NasdaqNM:ANCX - news) and 45 units filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday, listing assets of $6.50 billion and debts of $5.95 billion, according to papers filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware."

"ANC, which owns and operates car rental businesses under the Alamo and National brand names, in recent weeks has announced restructuring including the hiring of a new president, Lawrence Raemakers, who specializes in turning around ailing companies."

FWIW, I have a minivan reserved through National for the end of the month and am fairly certain that the bankruptcy filing will not affect current operations.

I was just coming to post this. I just heard it on my local news.

I sure hope it doesn't affect my National rental for November 29!

I sure hope things get back to somewhat normal someday. It's just so sad to see all these business going under because of September 11.:(

I think it is time to have a backup reservation for our Jaunuary trip.

Well, I'm not concerned. No reason to get all worked up about "what ifs". Personally I just moved up our next trip from 11/21 to 11/18. Changed my ressie, now it's $277 all inclusive for 14 days on the EA.

I have a ressie for feb at National for about $149/week then with discounts the total for 2 weeks was about $308 (including all taxes and charges). I thought this was great. (I did make the mistake of booking an intermediate, should have booked full size for same rate, but reliazed my mistake too late. However an intermediate will suit our needs Ok).
I want to make sure we have a ressie, and am now worried about National closing.
So I just tried some different in airport car rental companies and the best I could do was $149/week, no discount at Dollar. This works out to $384.91 for the 2 weeks with all the taxes/surcharges. Oh, and this is a fullsize.
Does anyone have any experience with Dollar? Good? Bad? Ugly? lol
How about any good codes? I went to www.travelcouponsonline.com but the rates there at this time didnt help me much.
