Anandapur Yak & Yeti Restaurant?

I'm hoping that Y &Y is on the DDP as well. Are any non-Disney owned restaurants on the plan? I thought Raglan Road was not a Disney-owned restaurant, and it is on the plan. I know Raglan Road has its own non-Disney website, hiring policies, etc., which makes me think its independently owned.

Raglan Road is not a Disney-owned restaurant but they have chosen to participate in the plan. At DTD, Planet Hollywood and Wolfgang Puck's Cafe also participate. Many of the restaurants at Epcot are not Disney-owned but have also chosen to participate (most likely they aren't crazy about losing business to the Disney-owned restaurants).

Yak & Yeti is owned by Landry's Restaurants, who also own Rainforest Cafe. They'll also own the new T-Rex restaurant at Downtown Disney. The Rainforest Cafes do not participate in the dining plan, so it's not known if Yak & Yeti will participate or not.

I think they might end up participating for Yak & Yeti, because it's situated inside a theme park. If it doesn't participate, it will lose all the dining plan customers to Tusker House.

Seeing this thread, it's a good idea when you call Disney Dining to make sure they know whether or not you are discussing Yak & Yeti or Tusker House, since they seem to be regularly mixing up the two. Tusker House is the character buffet (and there will only be characters at breakfast), not Yak & Yeti.

Thanks, I found it, and with all due respect, the info the poster got from a Disney dining CM is speculation, not official.

Consequently, I just called disney Dining and (nicely) asked the CM I got to confirm with her management what the latest official status of Yak and Yeti's scheduled opening (ergo, this year? Early next? In our lifetime?)

She did, and what I got back was "we have no information." I then queired her on what that meant (e.g., no answer from your boss, or literally "tell the guest on your line we just don't know").

She specifically said her manager stated dining has not been given any timetable. So with all due respect to the TGM poster mamazaz, take what the particular CM she spoke to said with a grain of salt - again, that info is not official and could well be simply another classic "rogue Disney CM passing on the grapevine soundbite du jour" situation. Or put another way, "pushed back till after January" is not substaintiated yet.

I'm a bit disappointed looking at the menu...

number one, I miss the chicken pot stcikers that you used to be able to get at AK. I don't really eat pork, so the chicken ones were a treat, as most places have pork one and I can't eat them. Besides, the chicken ones are healthier.

Second, I don't see a good vegetarian option anywhere on this menu. My sister is vegetarian and we usually go to WDW with her. There are LOTS of great vegetarian dishes they could have chosen from. Even those of use who are not vegetarians, sometimes enjoy veggie dishes. At least most of the entrees come with some form of veggie.....

That's my sticking point too. I'm disappointed.

I'm disappointed because I don't know why a Chinese restaurant named Yak and Yeti has been plunked down in the middle of Anandapur!

Good point, although I suspect it's because true Nepalese cuisine would not appeal to the less-than-adventureous tastes of most WDW visitors. Here are some of that culture's favorite dishes:

Takhala Newari: a jello dish of made from meat soup.

Samay Baji: beaten rice with roasted meat, smoked fish, boiled-then-fried egg, black soybeans and diced ginger.

Gundruk: a sour and tangy soup made from dried, fermented green leaves.

Chhyang: a milky white beer made from fermented rice.

This pretty much eliminates me from seriously considering this restaurant too, at least until it's had a chance to settle in and I've read more reviews. Sure, I can always request vegetarian options at restaurants; I just prefer eating at places that have already have vegetarian dishes. It seems short-sighted of Disney not to include them at this venue.

It's short-sighted of Landry, not Disney. Landry runs the restaurant and came up with the menu.

I think we can let them share the blame. It's not like this is a standard Landry restaurant with an established menu. If they were creating a new menu, one would have hoped that Disney's dining team would have been consulted, and would have provided some guidance to include at least one vegetarian options.

I agree with the previous poster: I can ask to be accommodated, but I really don't want to have to ask. :sad2:
