We will be staying at Paradise Pier this weekend and we have tickets to the Dodger game Saturday night. It starts at 6:10pm. We will have a rental car. Will the traffic be that bad? Or should we take a train?

You're better off driving. The last Pacific Surfliner going south on weekends (796) leaves LA Union Station at 10:10. You might barely make it if you take the first Dodger Stadium Express after the game ends. And that's if the game is short.

The traffic may be bad, but bad traffic is probably better than being stuck and needing to take a cab back to Anaheim. That's kind of the way it is in Southern California and especially trying to take any kind of public transportation to Orange County.

Leave at 2 in the afternoon. No joke. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get there. I will never do that again!

We ended up driving and it took about an hour. I guess we got lucky! The game was on a Saturday, so I guess we didn't have to deal with commuter traffic.

A lot will depend on the route you take. For example, coming through downtown on 110N, there's 2 points where you'll have to merge down to 1 lane, and one of those is just past an on ramp. On weekdays this will include people trying to get onto the freeway and cross the single lane leading to the stadium. The the exit is only 2 lanes. I once saw an SUV stall, so that took it down to 1 lane. People got out of their cars to push it off the overpass. So on a weekend, it should in theory be easier, but it just takes one little incident to block those lanes and it becomes awful. I had season tickets for many years, so clearly I still think it's worth the hassle, but planning ahead helps.
