Looking for opinions of these two hotels.

How are the beds - soft, firm, hard? Good for side sleepers?

Breakfast - do either of these offer a FREE breakfast and if so what?

Are the rooms clean, well maintained?

Is there FREE wifi?

We are far from Hotel Snobs (usually stay at Days Inn or Super 8) but looking for something a bit closer but in the same price range.

We stayed at the Del Sol in March...
I thought the beds were awful. Very hard. But I recently had back surgery and may have been more sensitive. DH and the kids had no complaints about the beds.
Breakfast was a joke! The breakfast room was teeny tiny. If you were not there at opening you could not sit. The food was gross. Stale supermarket pastries, a few cheap cereals, hard boiled eggs, bad waffles and gross juice. We went once and then opted to buy food for the rest of our stay (and we are not picky about free breakfast. We usually always manage on the free hotel breakfast).
The room was clean and maintained. It was definitely older and felt a little stale but it was clean. No funny smell and the carpets appeared clean. They folded a towel into an animal shape, which totally wowed the kids and I thought was a cute touch.
I think the WiFi is free. But don't quote me. But with that being said, WiFi was awful and basically unusable the whole time. I could not get a signal. I feel like if I paid for it I would have gone to complain, so that's why I assume it was free!
Another thing that you did not ask but you may want to know.... Parking is a nightmare there! The lot doesn't have enough spaces and we had to "valet" so they could double park our car. Made me very nervous! It was soooo tight.
All in all the Del Sol was clean and the price was amazing. The staff was also friendly and we felt safe. You really can't beat it for a place to sleep that is super close to the park. I wouldn't run back there and be excited about it (that's the Candy Cane Inn for us). But we would not rule it out for a future stay.

We've stayed at the Anaheim Plaza. I have a bad back and didn't have a problem with the beds. I honestly don't remember if they were hard or soft but I'm guessing if they were hard I would have remembered.

They do not have free breakfast but we've always packed granola bars. They do have a gift shop with milk and juice and some fruit that you can buy.
Parking is plentiful. The room was clean and large with a huge counter in the bathroom.

I don't take my computer on vacation so can't answer you about WiFi

They are directly across from the Tower of Terror so that gives you an idea of the walk to the walkway.

I think the question about breakfast and wifi can easily be answered by looking at the relevant hotel's websites. That is my first point of call when searching for somewhere to stay.

As for the cleanliness of the rooms and the types of beds try looking on Trip Advisor for feedback. I am a side sleeper too and I find it's more the pillow that's of interest to me over the firmness or not of the bed. I tend to travel with my own favourite pillow that I bought from my chiropractor because of my curved spine and I hate waking up with a sore neck and back.

In saying to research on TripAdvisor, keep in mind that it is not the be-all and end-all of information. Everyone's opinion is subjective and what is considered offensive to one person is not an issue to others. My attitude is to take from things what you need or are looking for and discount the rest. Otherwise you are just dismissing the right of others to have an opinion, which is everyone's right to do and express. After all, we cannot all live in a vanilla world where we all think and do the same :grouphug:

Disclaimer: I have not stayed at either place before but I have stayed at a Days Inn once and did not like it at all (but it was a darned sight better than the EconoLodge in Bakersfield I once made the mistake of staying at!)

Hi! We just checked out of Del Sol this morning (checked in Thurs, out Tues.) Del Sol's website will, I presume, tell you yes to WiFi and breakfast. WiFi was non-functional for me on my phone, although I believe my roommate was able to connect briefly on her laptop. We did overhear another patron indicate they were having problems and that it usually worked better.

Breakfast was pretty pathetic. (Non-tasty) orange & apple juice, I think some milk, three varieties of donuts (powdered, chocolate coated and coconut crusted) & mini muffins (choc and banana nut,) boiled eggs, a few cereals, slices of bread & limp waffles and a toaster. I am not picky but it wasn't good. That said, our touring strategy is often hit RD & dash from ride to ride for an hour, pick up a couple of FPs, then slow down and grab a breakfast. We need just a little something in tummies to get us started - the breakfast worked. I brought bagels & PB for race morning. Also, it is only out from 7-9, which seems like a smaller window than most hotels, IIRC.

Beds are firm. I found them comfy, as did my roommate, but ymmv.

Overall, the room was showing signs of age but it was clean. The carpet appeared relatively new; the microwave was not and the a/c was old style motel a/c. The bathroom was worn, but again, clean. I think we are a lot like you in that a Days Inn is fine - clean and safe are my criteria. I have stayed in some very very nice hotels (NYC 5*) and some extremely cheap hotels and have come to the conclusion that MOST of the time I would rather save the money and go for basic.

There was a small pool and hot tub, but again, looked clean - we never made it down to use it. Pool turned pretty colors at night lol. It closed promptly at ten (as in, it was padlocked after,) and we were always in the parks until after that.

Staff was friendly, price was right, distance to the crosswalk was minimal. There's a Denny's right there that is fine - I mean, it's Denny's. I ate both my pre- and post- race meals there lol (Sat dinner & Sun brunch.) IHOP is close too, but we couldn't eat there due to the fact that they make balloon animals (latex allergy.)

Oh - just realized I meant to mention - no elevator. Only two floors so this was no biggie for us, we were upstairs, but if you'll have stroller/wheelchair/ECV/heavy luggage you may want to inquire about being on the first floor.

If I missed any questions, feel free to ask!

Anaheim Plaza charges for WiFi. There is no free breakfast. They also charge for parking.

We booked at Anaheim Plaza. After looking at reviews it appeared that the Plaza had the better beds (hope it is true).

We will be at the Anaheim Plaza Sunday and Monday and will let you know when we return how the beds are, etc.

Too funny. My roomie just said to me, unprompted, "The best thing about that hotel was the beds. It had great beds. At least mine was, don't know about yours." Lol!!

Thanks. I tend to like a softer bed, most hotels beds tend to be on the firm/hard side. I know I HATED the beds at Desert Inn & Suites.

Wish I could learn to like firm beds, it would make travel much nicer.

I haven't stayed since last October but the day we checked out of the Anaheim plaza, they were replacing tons of mattresses.
