Anaheim hotel/motel recommendations

Heading to Disneyland for a couple of nights prior to going to San Diego this summer and was looking for a hotel/motel recommendation preferably under $125 a night. Not looking for much in terms of amenities as we will be arriving late the first night and then spending the next two days in the parks before heading south.

Just a clean updated room that is not too far from Disneyland.

The one I've stayed at is the Tropicana. It was clean and right across the street from the park.

Endless amenities aren't my thing either but there's something to be said for a nice room, a clean shower, decent tv and a free shuttle to the park. With that said I'd highly suggest checking out priceline for a 3.5 or 3 star hotel with their name your own price bidding. The last couple of times I booked down there I was able to pick up a room for about $50 a night + tax (so about $60 total). Most of the time you end up a little further away from the park for the nicer places but the free shuttles make up for it.

If you want something you can book directly I'd check Hotels.com or Orbitz and just look at the star reviews to gauge if it's going to feel ok or not. Lots of places are decently priced... The Ayres Inn, Portofino, Anahiem Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, and Quality Inn & Suites all list for under $125 a night for a weekend in early June.

Even the Motel 6, Del Sol Inn and Jolly Roger hotel under $75/night in June) are pretty well rated.

Or check the HoJo, they are a great hotel. Nice clean rooms, nice beds and if you've got an Ent. Card you can get some amazing rates when they are available. $59/69/79 depending on what you're looking for.

Tropicana is nice, Candy Cane Inn is nice too, they have a free brekkie and a free shuttle.

Count me as a second on that! Try for a 3* hotel in the "Disneyland Area." Biddingfortravel.com has some wonderful recommendations on using Priceline. We've never had a bad stay using PL in Anaheim, except for one moment of weakness when we tried for a 2* and ended up in a marginal motel around the corner. Hotels we've enjoyed for as little at $40 a night are Anaheim Hilton, Doubletree Hotel, Hyatt Regency OC, Anaheim Marriot, Crowne Plaza. Some of these hotels will have an additional resort fee of up to $14, but even adding that, it's still the best deal around! All of these hotels have shuttles to/from the Shuttle area of Disneyland. IIRC, the Anaheim Marriot and Anaheim Hilton are on the ART system. The rest are private or dedicated shuttles.

JMHO… :

Being able to walk to the parks is one of the nice things about DLR, and I would recommend a hotel/motel that’s in walking distance.

I like the Howard Johnson (HoJo) (1380 S. Harbor Blvd.)
- during the summer you can get a 15% DIScount
- 10 minute walk
- nice swimming area
- free internet

I like the Camelot Inn (1520 S. Harbor Blvd.)
- $159/night?
- 7 minute walk
- it's also decent and very clean
- continental breakfast is o.k.

The Tropicana Inn (1540 S. Harbor Blvd.) is the Camelot Inn’s sister-hotel
- $149/night?
- 6 minute walk
- similar to the Camelot Inn

Best Western Park Place Inn (1544 S. Harbor Blvd) -- I haven’t stayed there, but the BWPPI gets consistently good reviews, and it’s located right next to the crosswalk (5 minute walk).
- $144/night?

Candy Cane Inn (1747 S. Harbor Blvd.) -- I haven’t stayed there, but CCI also gets consistently good reviews.
- $139/night?
- 10 minute walk, but it’s one of the few hotels that has a dedicated shuttle (to and fro twice/hour)
- continental breakfast
- free internet
- the rooms are a little on the small side

Fairfield Inn (1460 S. Harbor Blvd.) – I haven’t stayed there, but the Fairfield gets consistently good reviews.
- $149/night?
- 8 minute walk

The prices above are for weekdays in July, and they don’t include the 15% tax.

It wouldn’t hurt to check www.tripadvisor.com.

My DD and I stayed at The BW Anaheim Inn back in October for three nights and were quite happy with the rooms. It is a couple of doors down from the crosswalk so is very convenient especially if you want to return to the room for a rest in the afternoons. The rooms were clean and the staff friendly. There is no complimentary breakfast, but that wasn't a concern for us anyway. I think we paid $99 per night. There is a pool but being cooler we didn't check this out. It doesn't seem to get many reccomendations here, but it is the only hotel that I've used at DLR that I am planning on a return stay at. We will be staying there again this December.

Another vote for Priceline.com. We've used them on so many trips. The only time we don't use them is when we get a smoking deal on a hotel website. For our upcoming trip in March, we just booked on the Hilton website. There was a Bed and Breakfast special there for our family of 4 for $105/night (free parking too). With Priceline hotels, after paying for the parking cost and the breakfast cost, we figured it would be close to what we're getting at the HGI.

I just haven't been brave enough to try those sites! Maybe some day. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Garden Grove (3 miles away) and loved it. Nice bed, nice shower, free breakfast, free parking. We paid $99 a night last summer but I have seen it cheaper since. ART stops there, but we drove to DLR.

After doing a little research using the links provided in this thread and a lot of reading on tripadvisor, I am pretty sure we are going to stay at the Fairfield Inn on S. Harbor(Tue 8/4 - Fri 8/7).

The "independent" motels within a short walk(this does not include Candy Cane as the walk appears longer) scare the heck out of me with mixed reviews and I am not sold on Best Western or the Ramada.

The Fairfield is going to cost me around 150 + tax per night(more than I was planning on spending) and does not include breakfast(no big deal), but I just feel like I will being able to walk in there with peace of mind knowing that my odds are better that I am not going to have any problems during my stay.

labattblue, I'm not sure how you made your reservation at the Fairfield, but keep checking at www.marriott.com because their prices fluctuate. We stayed there last summer for only $82 per night.

We loved the Fairfield. There beds are super comfy and the room is large. It has the extra fold out chair too (single sized bed). It does a small fridge and no microwave..but found we really didn't need one. The coffee maker is small (single cup), but makes decent coffee. (better than HoJos's! my only real complaint at HoJo's...their coffee was bad, IMO) I would stay at the Fairfield again in a heartbeat.

You know the old saying..."snooze you lose"? Well, I didn't make the Fairfield reservations yet and now the cheapest room for the days we will be there is $189 + tax.

I was willing to go with $149+, but $40 more per night...thanks, but no thanks.


Looks like we will be staying elsewhere on S. Harbor Blvd. Back to the drawing board.

I currently have the Homewood Suites by the Airport booked at $169 a night.

I also have to say we have reservations at Embassy Suites South in June for the same rate- $150 a night. It includes a very nice breakfast and rooms with a bedroom and living room, fridge and microwave. We used our AAA rate and paid a little more than an internet site rate in order to have the ability to cancel if something came up. Of course, this place would probably be too far to walk from which I know is important to some people.
