We stayed for 4 nights last week and were pleased with our rooms, the staff and even the breakfast.

The motel is just steps from the crosswalk that leads to the park, our suite of rooms were clean, modern and good-sized. I like having the sink and counter area separate from the tub and toilet and the counter was large enough for all of my stuff. The bathroom area had new tile, plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The towels were a bit thin but they worked OK.

The room had a fridge and microwave, TV, table and chairs. We had room for all of our gear and souveniers and overall the room was quiet and accessible. Our suite was a good price, $170 per night and this came to $85/night plus tax per room (the suite is two full rooms which are connected) which is an amazing rate for the location and accommodations. The continental breakfast was fine - sweet roles, oranges, juice, toast and coffee. Most of us thought it was a good way to start the day but my dh likes some meat so we walked down to McDonalds and got a couple of breakfast sandwiches for him.

They placed our friends right across the hall from us and parking was tight but free and OK. Downsides were no internet access in the rooms and I'm guessing it isn't a high-priority for most families on vacation. You can bring your laptop to the lobby for access and it's free.

The other downside is the pool. It's indoors and small. When I walked by there were several families in there and it looked crowded and a little scary. We didn't use it at all and next time I may pay more for a nice pool. Savanna really loved the pool in San Diego and this pool was a huge disapointment.

Overall, the positives far outweighed the negatives. We got change in the lobby, bought soap, did laundry, got duplicate keys and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The price and location were right but I still wouldn't recommend this motel if the rooms weren't clean and well-maintained.

If you want a place close to the park (and it's nice when you're dragging yourself back at midnight with a sleeping toddler) then you should give the Dessert Inn a call.

Here is my family leaving the motel and heading to Disneyland on our first day. Shown are my daughter, granddaughter, son and my mom -

We stayed there once in Oct of 2000. The room were horrible. Carpet filthy.
Our socks were black from just walking on it. After that we stayed at Embassy Suite in Garden Grove. Now, we try to stay at The Disney Resorts when we can get a discount.

This is probably our favorite off site hotel. It is a toss up between HOJOs and Desert Inn and Suites... with the advantage going to the Desert Inn because of the extra room in a parlor suite and location to the crosswalk. Plus we go in colder weather so the outdoor pool area at the HOJOs it not something we use.

We have stayed in a Parlor Suite two separate times for 4 nights each time. We have always found it to be extremely clean. The staff was always helpful. If you looked you could see the Matterhorn and fireworks out the window ;)

The free breakfast is nothing much - but all my two small kids need is there (Toast, jelly, milk, oj and fruit).

The water in the rooms is always nice and hot.

Our last trip we were at the Grand Californian - I think it is going to be a let down the next time we have to stay in the "real world."

Our stays at the Desert Inn were in '04 and '05.

I'm pretty sure they've updated the rooms since 2000. When we stayed there in 2002 and 2003, the carpets were dirty and it was a bit run down. But I have heard they've rennovated since then. I would try it again, but the HoJo ent. rate keeps me loyal to them.

and I also would recommend it. We stayed in a Parlor Suite (living room and separate bedroom). We paid $139 a night, and I think it was worth it.

The fridge was large, the room was a decent size, and the bathroom was clean.

The walk from the parks was great. It was definitely a shorter walk than the walk to PP or DLH.

My DD, age 5, did use the pool. It was fine for her, but I agree that it is not impressive and was crowded quite often.

It was the least expensive suite option that I could find in the area. I even slept on the pull out sofa and it was not awful. The regular bed was certainly more comfortable, but the pull out bed was tolerable.

We will stay here again.

Where is it located? I don't see it on the maps of the Harbor Good Neighbor hotels. Which one is it next to?
