Hello all,

I am new here and we haven't been to Disney in ages, but are trying to plan our trip. We need a place that is walking distance as we have a newborn (he'll be 10 mos when we go) and also a nice outdoor pool, as we intend to take some breaks with the little ones for some swim time. We are limited as we are a large family (me, DH, 18 yo, 17 yo, 6 yo, 2 yo, and baby).

I called the Candy Cane Inn, since looking on this board it seems to be the place to go, but they will not guarantee connecting rooms, as much as I begged!

The Desert Palms seems to be right next to the Candy Cane and has some great suites for an affordable price but it's so hard to tell if they just make them look nice on the internet! Anyway, I haven't seen this place mentioned good or bad on your site, so I thought I'd post and see.

Any other suggestions????

We would really like to stay away from having to take shuttles, especially ones that service multiple hotels.

Oh, and it looks like we'll be going in August (trying to coordinate with my sisters wedding in San Diego...date yet to be determined exactly, but possibly mid August)

Thanks for your help!

Tracey

The Desert Palms has had some pretty mixed reviews. I'd go somewhere else. It's also a bit of a walk to the parks.

Look into these hotels. I think they'd fit your needs and they're all closer:

--Park Place Inn and Suites www.bestwestern.com/prop_05470
--Desert Inn and Suites (not to be confused with the Desert PALM) This one has an indoor pool which may/may not work out better for you depending on when you're going. www.anaheimdesertinn.com
--Carousel Inn and Suites www.carouselinnandsuites.com
--Howard Johnson's (just a bit further to walk, but a nice place. If you subscribe to mousesavers.com, there are often good deals to be had.)
www.hojoanaheim.com

I hope this helps!

Terri,

thanks for the info! It's very helpful. I see you stayed at the Carousel Inn, how did you like it? Do they have a good pool for families? We definitely would like to stay at a place with an outdoor pool.

The howard johnson actually looked cool with the pools but they were sold out of suites for the time that I *think* we will be there.

Thanks again

Tracey

you should still try for HoJo's. We had to have 2 rooms, and they gave us connecting rooms. I am not sure if they were guaranteed, but I know when I called and told them what I needed, they were very nice and accomadating, and said no problem. The rooms are plain, but nice and very clean. and it is vey walkable. My older kids even walked back and forth by themselves.

I love the Carousel Inn. They are my first choice on every trip. But I must admit that their pool is very lacking. It is about as small as a backyard pool. It's on the roof and although there is a wind barrier it still gets cold at times. August should be ok though.

Other than Howard Johnson's, all the pools in the area are quite small.

They do have an outdoor pool up on the roof. It's pretty small, but it's a cool location. HOWEVER, there is NO hot tub. This was disappointing to me since I like to soak after a day at the parks. Other than that, I liked the hotel. It's a step nicer than a lot of the ones around it as far as decor goes. The breakfast is nothing special, but at least it's something, and the kids always like it.:teeth:

As the others have said, you should check with Hojo's again and see about connecting rooms, too.
