Effective Dec. 13. God bless them, this information was considered so vital that Amtrak not only emailed, they telephoned at 6:30 a.m. today (our trip isn't until close to Easter)! Scared the heck out of us, we were sure someone had died, getting a phone call so early...

imtooexcitedtosleep - Tom - used it today & I think he's going to report on it on our next Podcast. Hopefully, he'll blog about it, too. :)

The station actually went into daily operation last Saturday on the 6th.

REALLY nice and BIG station. It feels more like an airport terminal than a train station.

With that said, for the amount of trains and buses that serve this station, its WAY too big. When I was there on the 7th, there were more security guards roaming the grounds than passengers waiting for trains and buses.

I really hope that OCTA, ART, Metrolink and Amtrak start providing more service as the old station was the perfect size for the amount of service that is provided to that area.

Where is it being relocated to?

1000 feet south of the old station.

The new train platforms sit underneath the 57 freeway.

We took the train from Anaheim to San Diego on Wednesday and went through this new station. It is beautiful and HUGE!

Things were a bit confusing as no one knew where anything was, there was still construction work going on all over, and there were very large groups of VIP's (I think Architects/Engineers/Construction) strolling around and looking up.

It was a bit difficult to navigate through.....not sure if that is because of how large it was or because it was new and nobody knew where thing were.

It also did not help that the large groups of VIP's seemed to have forgotten the purpose of the building and had no problem standing in the middle or blocking paths and escalators!

There's also new Megabus service between the Anaheim station and the Bay Area (SF, SF, Oak).
