Gumbo, i love you so...
haha
sorry i can't continue...but seriously...

Just got back from Disneyland and strangely, one of the highlights for me was my first taste of gumbo (out of a sourdough bread bowl, no less). I loved it.

Does anyone know if that's how it really tastes elsewhere? Or was something done to it...was it Disneyfied if you will.

And if anyone had a recipe...i'd be much obliged... pirate:

I don't know because i love the Jambalaya so much that's all i ever have! I know that compared to other jambalaya the NOS version is very authentic and not "dumbed down"

I love the gumbo bread bowls in NOS too. :) And yes, that's pretty much how most decent gumbo tastes.

Where is this at? We're going in a few months, and it sounds like a good place to eat. Do they have anything for a 3 year old?

You can get the gumbo at the Royal Street Veranda, a small walk up counter just above Pirates of the Carribean and also at the French Market, near the train station in New Orleans Square. The jamabalaya (my personal favorite) is only at the French Market.

I do agree that Disneyland's gumbo is good. But I prefer seafood gumbo that still has the chicken and sausage, but also has shrimp and/or crab. I also prefer mine spicier. But still, it is good.

The French Market does have kids meals, either Mickey chicken nuggets or mac n cheese. It is my 10yr old son and my favorite place to eat.

I prefer the old style fritters myself (when they were much bigger). Even have the recipe, and I make can whip up some killer fritters pirate:

I love the gumbo as well...I always get it at Blue Bayou (comes with your meal)...yum!

I was a devoted French Market jambalaya fan (when DH and I used to go to DL every Friday when we were just "friends" lol) and ate it every friday...

Now it seems as though they have changed it, and I don't really like it anymore. I don't know if it is more "authentic" now, but it used to be the rice with the jambalaya as a sauce on top (sausage, chicken, etc.). I loved it when it was saucy. Now it's just all the stuff mixed into the rice and it's a little dry for me.

BTW, I love the fritters also, and that apple custard! mmmmm...

^^ When I got the jambalaya in January, it was still the sauce on top of the rice, not all mixed up.

hmm, how weird...guess we'll have to check it out next time we go! :)
