So my family is thinking of a Florida trip. We are only going to spend one day at Disney (Star Wars land...) Could people weigh in as to weather it is worth it to spend 1-2 nights in a resort if we will only be spending the one day at the park.

The answer depends on vacation preferences. My youngest routinely only does 1 or 2 day park visits during her 4 and 5 day vacations. She enjoys the Florida resort, Disney Springs and the Boardwalk more than the parks. She'll purchase a ticket to see the 'latest and greatest' but she'd rather relax.

Yes. Very worth it.

If I only had one day, I would want to make the most of it. So, yes, for me it would definitely be worth it. If going to SW:GE I would choose an Epcot area resort. Perhaps the Swan or Dolphin (if a good discount was available) would be a good choice as it has many of the perks of a WDW resort and an awesome location walkable to DHS. It may be lower priced than the BWI or the YC/BC next door. If those are too high priced consider Pop Century or the Caribbean Beach Resort (Skyliner access).

I would opt for 2 days, though, at the resort so to not be 'homeless' during most of my day. Check out is at 11:00 am. If only doing one night, I probably wouldn't bother. It wouldn't be worth the hassle of checking in or out the morning of my one day at the theme park.

Enjoy!

I am a disney resort die hard, but in your shoes I don’t think I would bother.

The benefits of a disney hotel include 60-day fast passes (versus 30 days for offsite visitors), but I think even at 60 days, the hot ticket FPs will be gone.

The transportation between resorts and parks doesn’t seem that valuable to me for a single day visit.

The resorts that are walkable to HS are all going to be the more expensive options. Personally, I love staying deluxe but we always build in resort time. One or two nights won’t leave much resort time.

So for me, the value wouldn’t be there.

Worth it is subjective and there are a lot of variables to factor in. Will you be staying somewhere in the Orlando area before/after? Do you have a budget? Have you ever stayed on property before? Are you just doing SW or do you plan on spending a significant amount of time in the park?

If I were moving onto somewhere else the next day and didn't have a schedule as to when I had to be there and there wasn't more than a 2 or 3 hour drive away? Yes, I would spend one night at a WDW resort, most likely the night after I had visited the park. You can make your reservation and do on line check in, arrive at the resort as early as you want, even before park open. Park you car at the resort (it will cost you since they now charge for overnight guests to park at the resorts) go the front desk and let them know you are there and they might already know your room number. If you are staying at a value or moderate, they might be able to at least tell you the building so you can move your car there. If you are staying in a deluxe, you can store your luggage with them if you don't feel comfortable leaving it in the car. Hop on a bus or if you are staying in one of the Epcot resorts or Swan/Dolphin walk over to HS. Then when you are done and more tired than words can explain, you can head back to resort for a rest before you head out the next day with the rest of your trip.

For me, staying on property is part of the whole Disney experience and worth the price but it's not for a lot of people and I can certainly see why.

I totally would also. Especially if staying 2 nights, but I would also for 1 night. Love every resort we’ve tried so far!

This coming March dh and I are staying 5 nights at a Disney resort (Movies) with only 1 park day. We are planning to relax, enjoy the pool, Disney Springs etc. and will also be renting a car to go into Orlando to see an NBA game as well as doing some shopping. I love the feeling of staying at a resort in Disney and do not necessarily need to do a park everyday. When I travel with my kids to Disney then we usually do 4-5 parks during a 7 night stay.

“Worth it” is always gonna be subjective, but I actually think the value of staying on property with park proximity goes up higher on shorter trips. No way could I have done as much as I did the weekend before last if I wasn’t staying at BC. Being able to walk to multiple parks on a weekend trip was priceless. On Saturday night I walked to DHS on a whim after dinner in Crew’s Cup lounge, walked around Galaxy’s Edge for the first time and rode Smugglers Run single rider, then walked on to TSM at park close, then walked back to Epcot in time to see the fireworks. Sure I did use the resort amenities but mainly I was paying for convenience of location and it was 100% worth it to me.
